Job Summary
Ramp Agents at Southwest are responsible for guiding aircraft, moving and unloading cargo, assisting with de‑icing, and supporting smooth flight operations. Pay Rate $20.03 per hour, with opportunity for increase under the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide friendly service and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external customers.
Work cooperatively to support the success of Southwest.
Assist customers with baggage, cargo, airfare, mail, and other company materials at ramps and terminals.
Load, unload, service, guide, and direct company aircraft.
Record and verify baggage, freight, mail, and company materials; submit Cargo Bin Loading Slip (CBLS) electronically or manually.
Operate and/or drive motorized equipment including belt loaders, air start units, lift trucks, push‑back tugs, bag carts, lavatory carts, and de‑icers.
Perform interior aircraft cabin cleaning, including sweeping upholstery, cleaning windows, galleys, and disposal containers.
Maintain inventory of cabin interior supplies and operate provisioning equipment as required.
Transport cabin and cleaning equipment between aircraft storage areas.
Work in the vicinity of and between passenger terminals, hangars, and airfreight facilities, both indoors and outdoors.
Operate with safety and compliance, using radio equipment for communication and ensuring hazard awareness.
Enter required forms and paperwork into the company information system.
Complete other job duties as directed by supervisory staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Responsibilities
Strong teamwork and the ability to work under stress.
Complete Ramp Agent training program with a 90% or greater average during the evaluation period.
Read documents and follow instruction to comply with ramp operations procedures, rules, and regulations.
Recognize hazardous situations and handle emergencies as needed.
Work efficiently under tight time constraints to accomplish quick aircraft turnarounds.
Meet all grooming standards as outlined in the Ground Operations Employee Handbook and the labor agreement.
Use radio equipment, remain alert to moving vehicles or aircraft, and communicate instructions verbally or by radio.
Education No education requirement.
Experience No experience requirement.
Licensing/Certification
Valid state motor vehicle operator’s license.
Obtain a SIDA badge and satisfy local airport requirements.
May be required to obtain a Customs Seal to work international flights.
Physical Abilities
Lift and move items of 70 pounds or more on a regular basis; handle weights of 40–50 pounds on raised surfaces.
Climb, bend, kneel, crawl, and stoop frequently for extended periods.
Work in cramped or high places.
Carry heavy items up and down jetway stairs.
Wear prescribed uniforms consistently.
Other Qualifications
Maintain a well‑groomed appearance per company appearance standards.
U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the United States.
At least 18 years of age.
Comply with company attendance standards.
Work flexible shift work and/or overtime as required.
