Transmission Operator III or II
Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority, Acworth, Georgia, United States, 30102
Under direct supervision, operates and maintains transmission system pipelines and related equipment, facilities, tanks, pump stations and various valves and operators. This is an entry‑level position developing specialized knowledge in locating, troubleshooting problems, reading and maintaining meters, and providing customer service. Incumbents report to the Transmission Division Superintendent.
Pay Range $20.00/hr – $30.00/hr (cobb county‑marietta water authority pay range)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Locates water lines and easements and identifies encroachments requested through the Utility Protection Center (GA811) from system maps, engineering drawings, blueprints and pipe locating equipment
Obtain, record, and report monthly meter readings
Assist with meter and valve repairs
Subject to 24‑hour on‑call rotation; respond to emergency calls
Monitor construction activities near transmission pipelines and pipeline easements
Assist in inventory control of repair materials
Mow grass and otherwise maintain pipeline easements and storage tank sites
Use laptop computer to obtain work orders, utility maps, and work information
Coordinate locating transmission lines and easements with engineering staff for capital improvement construction projects and development plan review
Assist in interpreting plans and maps to determine location of transmission pipelines and appurtenances
Troubleshoot meter problems and assist in planning and coordinating meter repairs
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Understand and perform basic math, algebra, and solid geometry
Ability to perform grass cutting and bushhogging
Understand and use applicable safety procedures and equipment
Basic skills reading blueprints, locating county geography, and understanding schematic principles
Ability to understand basic hydraulic principles and basic chemistry principles
Ability to operate a computer, basic software, and understand principles of utility infrastructures
Minimum Qualifications (Transmission Operator III) Training and Experience Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and basic math computation skills, or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities for the position.
Licensing Requirements Class III Transmission Operator must obtain a Water Distribution License within eighteen (18) months from the date of hire. A Georgia Driver’s License is required. A good driving record must be maintained to continue employment with the Authority.
Minimum Qualifications (Transmission Operator II) Training and Experience Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience performing similar operation and maintenance work within the Transmission Division.
Licensing Requirements Positions in this class must have the Georgia Water Distribution License and have Confined Space and Utility Flagger certifications. A Georgia Driver’s License is required. A good driving record must be maintained to continue employment with the Authority.
Salary Ranges Transmission Operator III: Pay Grade 23 $42,369.60 – $61,443.20
Transmission Operator II: Pay Grade 25 $46,924.80 – $72,758.40
