The Adoption Assistant Manager plays a key supportive and operational role in advancing The Asher House’s industry‑leading adoption program. Working directly under the Adoption Manager, this position ensures the smooth execution of all day‑to‑day adoption activities, adopter communications, animal preparation processes, and digital adoption promotion efforts. In addition, this role is responsible for developing, launching, and managing The Asher House Foster Care Program and Foster Ambassador Program, both of which are essential to expanding capacity, supporting animals with behavioral or medical needs, and increasing successful placements.

The Adoption Assistant Manager provides hands‑on support with adoption screenings, animal matchmaking, returns intake, adopter support follow‑up, and the creation of storytelling content for animals awaiting homes. They help maintain high operational standards while delivering a compassionate and positive adopter experience consistent with The Asher House’s mission and values.

Key Responsibilities Adoption Program Support

Assist in all aspects of the adoption lifecycle including inquiries, screenings, interviews, meet‑and‑greets, and finalizations.

Prepare and maintain accurate digital records for adoptable dogs and companion animals.

Coordinate with animal care, medical, and behavior teams to ensure animals are adoption‑ready.

Support adoption return processes by assisting with intake documentation and reintegration logistics.

Maintain consistent communication with adopters through follow‑ups and behavior support check‑ins.

Foster Care Program Development & Leadership

Build, expand, and oversee The Asher House Foster Care Program.

Recruit, screen, onboard, train, and support foster caregivers.

Develop foster orientation materials, guidelines, and support resources.

Create structured communication plans for foster families.

Match animals to foster homes based on behavior, medical needs, and household suitability.

Track foster success metrics including length of stay and adoption conversions.

Foster Ambassador Program

Design and manage an innovative Foster Ambassador Program.

Provide training on storytelling, safe handling, and social media promotion.

Support ambassadors in advocating for their foster animals.

Track ambassador‑led adoption data and integrate outcomes into program growth.

Storytelling & Digital Promotion

Capture and curate high‑quality photos, videos, and bios for adoptable animals.

Support the social media and communications teams with content needs.

Assist with individualized adoption campaigns for long‑stay or behaviorally unique dogs.

Customer Service & Community Engagement

Provide exceptional customer service to adopters, fosters, and the public.

Help coordinate adoption events, foster orientations, and meet‑and‑greets.

Assist the Adoption Manager with alumni events and community activities.

Represent The Asher House warmly and professionally.

Operational & Administrative Support

Ensure all adoption and foster records are accurate and up to date.

Maintain scheduling systems for meet‑and‑greets, foster pickups, and appointments.

Support reporting and data tracking for the Adoption Manager.

Help train adoption support staff or volunteers as needed.

Qualifications

1–3 years of experience in animal sheltering, rescue, adoption programs, or foster coordination.

Strong understanding of dog behavior and placement considerations.

Excellent communication skills.

Highly organized and detail‑oriented.

Experience working with adopters, fosters, or volunteers preferred.

Comfortable with digital tools and content creation.

Compassionate, patient, and aligned with The Asher House mission.

A valid driver's license and a driving record free of major violations are required. Final job offer is contingent upon successful review and approval of driving history.
