Under the guidance of licensed special education staff, assist students with severe special education needs by helping individuals or small groups with curriculum delivery, implementing programming, generalizing learned skills, and applying behavior strategies. Prepare student materials, monitor students, record achievement and progress, and provide technical physical care. Maintain a clean and hygienic work environment. In an online/remote setting, support students with access to remote learning, re-teaching curriculum, executive functioning strategies, and assignment completion. Assignments include Autism, Behavior Development (BD), Early Childhood Education, Homebound (FAPE) Program, Integrated Learning Center (ILC), Serious Emotional Disability (SED), and Transition Programming. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Shared Job Task Across Assignments
Assist students with classroom activities, including adapting the curriculum to individual student needs (Daily, 35%). Implement student accommodations, supports, modifications, procedures, and programming per the IEP; maintain records and provide feedback to the IEP team (Daily, 30%). Assist licensed staff in preparing materials, administering tests, attendance, and other paperwork; support classroom events such as fire drills (Daily, 5%). Perform other duties as assigned or requested (Daily, 5%). Integrated Learning Center (ILC) and Homebound (FAPE) Program Assignment
Monitor students and reinforce appropriate behavior, assist in de-escalation and crisis interventions, and support social interactions (Daily, 15%). Provide technical physical care (toileting, grooming, feeding, medication delivery, etc.) (Daily, 10%). Serious Emotional Disability (SED) Assignment
Monitor students, reinforce appropriate behavior, de-escalate crisis situations, and support social interactions (Daily, 25%). Online/Remote Environment
Assist small groups or individuals with online classroom activities, including curriculum accommodations and modifications (Daily, 50%). Prepare and support students in completing assignments at home (Daily, 35%). Maintain student progress and behavior records with licensed staff (Daily, 5%). Support students in troubleshooting technology issues (Daily, 5%). Perform other duties as assigned or requested (Daily, 5%). Reporting Relationships
This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications
Criminal background check and fingerprinting required. High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma. No professional work experience required. Mandatory biennial Crisis Prevention Intervention training (for Autism, BD, ILC assignments). Medication administration training as needed. Basic knowledge of typical office equipment and Microsoft Office. Intermediate verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to work alone and with others. Ability to appropriately modify curriculum and implement behavior modification techniques. Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job. Ability to work one-on-one and in small groups with students. For DHH Program: understand impacts of hearing loss on learning and social interaction. For Homebound Program: set appropriate boundaries, build relationships, and communicate with families. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Work location may change to meet organizational requirements. Medium work strength level (lifting or carrying 50 pounds). Primarily works indoors. Typical moderate noise level. Prolonged standing, walking, bending, reaching, and climbing. Frequent lifting, pulling, pushing, squatting, overhead work, eye/hand coordination, and visual concentration. Desired Qualifications
Experience working in public education and with diverse backgrounds. Racially conscious and culturally competent. Associate’s degree. Experience working with special needs children, autism, behavior challenges, medically fragile conditions, hearing or vision loss, or intellectual disabilities. CPR and First Aid certification.
