Role Overview
The Transportation Fleet Manager owns the divisional fleet strategy from end-to-end — safety, compliance, performance, people leadership, cost optimization, and operational execution — while partnering with a growing enterprise fleet team overseeing 1,500+ total assets across Cornerstone Building Brands. This role requires someone who can independently carry large, highly detailed initiatives from start to finish while operating effectively in a matrixed enterprise environment.
This is a hands‑on leadership role for a fleet professional who understands both the operational and administrative realities of running a compliant, high‑performing fleet and who can serve as the authoritative point of contact for FMCSA and DOT matters within the division.
The role partners closely with the Enterprise Fleet team and directly supports one Fleet Specialist responsible for day‑to‑day operations.
This is a remote position preferably in Eastern or Central Time zones.
Key Responsibilities Fleet Leadership and Execution
Owns the end-to-end fleet operations across heavy-duty, medium-duty, and light-duty assets including tractors, trailers, box trucks, pickups, vans, and plant support vehicles
Drive fleet strategy, lifecycle planning, equipment standards, telematics adoption, and utilization improvements
Lead complex fleet projects requiring high attention to detail, follow-through, and cross-functional coordination
Align divisional fleet practices with enterprise fleet standards and long-term transformation initiatives
Serve as the escalation point for fleet-related operational issues impacting service, safety, or customers
Safety, Compliance, and Regulatory Authority
Act as the division’s subject matter expert for FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and state-level compliance for both CDL and non-CDL fleets
Ensure consistent execution of driver qualification files, hours of service, MVR monitoring, coaching standards, and corrective actions
Partner with EHS and Legal to reduce preventable incidents and strengthen safety culture
Lead fleet compliance activities related to audits, investigations, and regulatory inquiries
Administration, Integration, and Governance
Oversee fleet administration including registrations, titling, permits, IRP IFTA, 2290, and authority maintenance
Lead fleet integration activities for acquisitions including DOT updates, filings, and compliance alignment
Ensure fleet data integrity, reporting accuracy, and adherence to enterprise governance standards
Financial and Cross Functional Collaboration
Support budgeting, forecasting, cost per mile analysis, and cost optimization initiatives
Collaborate with Operations, Sales, HR, Finance, Supply Chain, and Plant Leadership to support business needs
Influence leaders and teams without direct authority in a matrix environment
Qualifications Required
8 to 10 plus years leading multi-site fleet operations across heavy-duty, medium-duty, and light-duty assets
Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex, detail-heavy initiatives from planning through execution
Deep working knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and state regulatory requirements
Proven success operating in matrixed organizations and influencing without direct authority
Strong executive function, organization, and prioritization skills
Data-driven decision maker with experience using telematics, maintenance data, and KPIs
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and fleet technology platforms
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Transportation, Supply Chain, Business, or related field
Preferred
Experience managing fleets of 75 plus power units and significant LD/MD populations
Background in manufacturing, building materials, or private fleet environments
Acquisition or integration experience
Industry certifications such as CTP, CDS, CLTD, CTL, or Six Sigma
