St. Patrick’s Day School is an Episcopal school located in Washington DC with a mission to serve children ages 3-8th grade. St. Patrick’s is committed to nurturing the whole child and remaining faithful to our Episcopal roots. St. Patrick’s practices a relational model of faith and service. We are looking for a Lower school Chaplain who will support the spiritual and pastoral needs of students, faculty, and families in grades preK–5. We are looking for a self starter and a priest who is secure in their own faith and development. This is a unique and rare opportunity for the right priest to work in the heart of our nation’s capital and to provide spiritual formation to our Lower school community.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan and lead regular, developmentally appropriate chapel services for Early Childhood (pre-K) and K–5 students, typically 1 chapel per division a week.

Incorporate music, prayer, storytelling, and interactive elements that engage young children.

Celebrate the liturgical seasons of the Episcopal Church and support school traditions and special services. Remain true to our Episcopal liturgy and theology, while also respecting and honoring students and families of other faith traditions.

Provide Pastoral Care:

Provide pastoral support to students, families, faculty, and staff, both individually and in group settings.

Be a visible and supportive presence in the daily life of the Lower School.

Deliver age-appropriate lessons in Episcopal identity, world religions, moral development, and character education.

Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate spiritual and ethical themes into broader curricular topics.

Teach Lower School Religion classes where needed

Collaborate and Communicate:

Work closely with the Rector, Head of School , the School Chaplain Team, and faculty to support the spiritual life of the school.

Maintain open and sensitive communication with families regarding spiritual development and pastoral care.

Preach 6 times a year at St. Patrick’s Parish

Qualifications:

Ordained Episcopal priest

Demonstrated experience working with young children in educational or pastoral settings.

Strong understanding of Episcopal liturgy, theology, and practice.

Passion for spiritual development in children and a creative approach to chapel and religious education.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to collaborate across disciplines and with diverse constituencies.
