Lifeguard Under the immediate supervision of a teacher possessing a valid teaching certificate, ensures the safety of students by constantly monitoring activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents and provide assistance to swimmers, and performs related duties as required. Essential Functions
Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning, administers first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as necessary, cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas of swimming pools, assists teachers in providing swimming instructions to students, may assist teachers in maintaining order in swimming pool areas, may officiate at swimming meets. Desirable Minimum Qualifications
Training and Experience: Graduation from high school, or GED equivalent, with previous experience as a lifeguard highly desirable. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skill: Knowledge of lifesaving and lifeguarding methods and techniques, ability to effectively administer first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to victims requiring such attention, ability to swim and dive proficiently, demonstrated swimming and diving skills. Certificate Requirements
Must possess valid certification from the American Red Cross in First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Lifeguard Training. Physical Requirements
Medium Work: Exerting twenty (20) to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, or ten (10) to fifteen (15) pounds of force frequently, or greater than negligible up to ten (10) pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands include the ability to hear and talk frequently; frequent use of far visual acuity and depth perception; ability to see and distinguish colors; ability to climb, stoop, and bend; ability to reach and handle objects.
