About the role This position is responsible for managing the Application Engineering department. Responsible for developing and managing customer contacts and internal relationships. The manager will regularly participate in interdepartmental teams as a team member and team leader. Participate in Product Development and customer and sales training.
Responsibilities
Train, mentor, and facilitate staff assuring all have an opportunity for personal development and advancement. Plans, assigns, and directs work. Appraises performance, rewards and disciplines employees. Manages department budget.
Develop and implement key process improvement
Work cross functionally with BU personnel including design engineers, product managers, QC, and others on issues regarding schedule, quality, and customer challenges
Works with sales, customers, and trade groups to understand the technical aspects of the products in the marketplace and drive product improvements
Provide project review, design and the development of testing procedures on new and existing products.
Full understanding of data center architecture and cabling topologies with design level expertise
Responds to customer needs, challenges, and issues with possible resolution. Maintains accurate customer complaint reports and reports to the Senior Leadership Team on a regular basis
Driving product feature improvements and facilitate new product development
Develop, conduct, and report product performance results to management on validation testing of new and existing products
Develop instruction sheet content, application notes, and technical bulletins
Produce communication materials to promote and train customers on technical features of Leviton products
Develop presentations and provide training for internal sales and spec. engineers and external customers including contractors, consultants and distributors
Provide customers with layout recommendations based on customer-provided facility drawings
Review customer requirement / specifications and identify proper solutions to meet the requirements
Participating in and contributing to Product Development Initiatives (PDI) and Product Profit Loss (PPL)
Test copper and fiber solutions for specific needs and requirements
Work with fiber cabling systems and polarity options
Provide demonstrations to customer base with knowledge of copper and fiber product lines
Develop tools which aid customers in finding answers to technical queries
Qualifications
Copper and fiber background, understanding of manufacturing processes and equipment required
Copper and fiber background with understanding of electrical and light transmission required
Telecommunication Industry standards knowledge
Visio and Autocad required
Prior experience in design, estimation, and installation of networking products preferred
BICSI RCDD certification preferred
Data Center certification preferred
Leadership – Ability to lead, manage, motivate, and mentor team to drive towards success and foster a culture of excellence
Communication – Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with coworkers, along with internal and external customers and key stakeholders
Attention to Detail – Ensure accuracy in work product, documentation, and processes to maintain high standards
Customer Service – Provide excellent service to internal and external customers
Education & Experience Education
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related engineering field required
Experience
Minimum 8 years of technical support, applications, technical sales or engineering experience required
Minimum of 5 years in managing engineers
Travel Up to 20%
