Job Title : Fluid Systems Design Engineer
Contract Type : 12‑month Remote Contract
Hourly Compensation : $52 – $85 per hour
Overview System One is seeking a highly capable and motivated System Design Engineer – Fluid Systems to support advanced nuclear and industrial system design efforts. This remote contract position focuses on system integration, supplier coordination, and ensuring hardware designs meet technical and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Design nuclear and industrial components and systems from requirements development through final design
Provide technical oversight to vendors developing mechanical system and component designs
Coordinate and review engineering analyses including thermal, seismic, structural, pipe stress, heat transfer, and related disciplines, integrating results into overall plant design
Integrate as‑designed hardware into the overall system and plant design
Identify and ensure correct application of applicable design codes and standards (ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, etc.)
Provide technical direction and guidance to engineers on nuclear and non‑nuclear design standards
Analyze and allocate regulatory criteria and standards to complex mechanical designs
Support planning activities and maintain schedule adherence for system‑level design tasks and plant‑level integration milestones
Interface with design teams to create and manage drawing packages, including P&IDs, 3D models, and system interface drawings
Provide technical oversight of supplier projects in coordination with contract administrators and supplier project engineers
Review supplier deliverables and ensure timely delivery of technical data and documentation
Establish and maintain system requirements and specification documents, including Engineering Design Specifications for major equipment
Propose, initiate, and oversee testing and qualification programs for plant systems, as required
Generate complete design packages for systems, subsystems, and equipment, including calculations, design reports, drawings, and specifications
Required Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited university
5+ years of direct experience in mechanical or system design engineering
Demonstrated experience coordinating suppliers and contractors, including project management responsibilities
Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in fluid systems, structural analysis, tolerance analysis, and interpretation of engineering drawings
Experience with high‑temperature systems and multi‑disciplinary integration strongly preferred
Experience with nuclear handling process systems, fluid systems, or fluid system component design is a plus
Ability to work on multiple simultaneous tasks requiring a multi‑disciplinary approach
Familiarity with quality standards such as ASME NQA‑1 or ISO 9001
Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to technical excellence
Self‑starter with the ability to coordinate and lead design efforts with minimal direction
Proven ability to manage competing objectives and design constraints while resolving conflicts effectively
High level of integrity, professionalism, and ability to foster teamwork and collaboration
