Welder 2
– The Prototyping Manufacturing and Integration Division (PMID) of
Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc
is seeking a full‑time Welder 2 on-site at our Madison, AL facility.
Location: Madison, AL – 26641 Distribution Boulevard NW, Madison, AL 35756, USA.
Reserve a SECRET clearance is required. This position will require a minimum of the ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance from the U.S. Department of War.
Essential responsibilities include welding metal parts together using gases or arc processes, thermal cutting and grinding, repairing broken or cracked parts, filling holes, positioning and clamping components, and assisting engineers and senior staff with prototype system construction.
Must Haves
High School diploma (or equivalent) plus advanced training and 4+ years welding shop experience
Proven experience with GMAW and GTAW principles
Minimum 4 yrs GMAW in steel and aluminum
Minimum 4 yrs GTAW in aluminum
Ability to weld metal components according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders
Knowledge of welding machine set-up (GTAW, GMAW, and SMAW)
Proven experience operating metal removal and joining tools (e.g., plasma, oxy‑fuel torch)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience with both gas and arc welding processes
Ability to meet tolerance and design specification using metal removal and joining tools
Commitment to safety training and daily safety procedures
Physical capability: prolonged sitting or standing, lifting up to 50 lbs alone, 50 lbs or more with assistance, and adequate hand coordination and vision
Proper use of personal protective equipment (safety glasses, respirator, safety shoes, hearing protection, hand protection)
Nice If
Active/current SECRET clearance
Associate’s degree in a technical field
Additional Information
Two parts to the interview: on‑site face‑to‑face panel interview and a welding assessment immediately after the interview, limited to 30 minutes.
You must bring serviceable welding gear (shade 10 or greater hood, jacket, gloves); safety glasses may be provided. If gear is not serviceable, the weld test cannot proceed.
