Job Summary The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Registered Nurse (Cath Lab RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures. The Cath Lab RN assists physicians during cardiac catheterizations, angioplasties, stent placements, pacemaker insertions, and other invasive cardiac procedures while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare patients for cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures
Assist cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures
Monitor hemodynamic status, cardiac rhythms, and vital signs throughout procedures
Administer medications, including conscious sedation, per physician orders
Maintain sterile technique and assist with catheter insertion and equipment setup
Operate and troubleshoot Cath Lab equipment and monitoring systems
Assess patients pre-, intra-, and post-procedure and provide appropriate nursing care
Manage post-procedure recovery, including sheath removal and hemostasis
Recognize and respond to cardiac emergencies and complications
Provide patient and family education regarding procedures and post-care instructions
Document patient care accurately in the electronic medical record
Participate in on-call rotation as required
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, Joint Commission, and regulatory standards
Qualifications
Active
Registered Nurse (RN)
license in the state of practice
Minimum
1–2 years of Cath Lab, ICU, or Critical Care experience
(preferred).
BLS and ACLS
certification required
Conscious sedation competency preferred
Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics
