Base pay range $18.50/hr - $30.00/hr
Summary An Advanced Machine Operator is a 2nd level Operator who has the responsibility of ensuring product quality by successfully managing the entire machine operating process. As an Advanced Machine Operator, you will start up machines, change the tooling of the machines to run different product, complete intermediate troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks when issues arise, be alert to product quality and follow all control plans accordingly, and train others. Additionally, you will actively participate in a team environment to maximize production efficiencies in producing a zero‑defect high‑quality product. Advanced Machine Operators are hands‑on employees who work with state‑of‑the‑art equipment in a clean and professional work environment. This position requires a strong commitment to safety.
Supervisory Responsibility Although not a direct Supervisor, the Advanced Machine Operator directs and assigns daily work, manages breaks/lunches, and escalates breakdowns/issues to the Senior Operator.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). One year or more prior manufacturing experience preferred. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, decimals, negative and positive numbers. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs. Use of Metric System. Ability to solve practical problems and apply common sense understanding carry out instructions furnished in written/oral. A minimum of three years consecutive work experience in a Production and or Manufacturing environment required.
External Applicants: A minimum of three years’ consecutive work experience in a Manufacturing environment required.
Language: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to team members and other employees of the organization.
Technology: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of SAP Integrated Business software and work order software. Use computer with Windows operating system, Microsoft Office Suites software.
Grinding Operator: The employee is occasionally required to stoop, crouch, or climb. The employee must also frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds; occasionally push/pull up to 80 pounds; rarely lift up to 80 pounds.
AL‑Lines: The employee is occasionally required to stoop or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds between floor and waist level; occasionally push/pull up to 70 pounds.
Key Deliverables
Maintains a safe working environment by complying with all safety and environmental policies in the workplace. Advocates for and promotes a safe work environment by reporting Near Misses and/or other safety and environmental hazards, wearing all required PPE and encouraging others to do the same.
Has authority to stop processes to correct quality, safety, or environmental problems, identify and place suspect products on quality hold, and to promptly notify Supervisory personnel when processes become noncompliant.
Drives towards meeting balance scorecard metric targets including safety, sustainability, quality, delivery, and cost.
Engages in and supports Operational Excellence programs by submitting continuous improvement ideas.
Maintains established 6S standards for work area.
Maintains ownership of work area.
Responsible for completing control plan inspections.
Understands and maintains all quality standards.
Participates in 5 why root cause analysis.
Loads, unloads, sorts, and inspects proper component parts and assemblies according to Control Plans and ensures accurate assembly.
Maintains ownership of Quality Sorts stops the process, handles non‑conforming products on their shifts.
Troubleshoots scrap and escalates.
Efficiently runs and operates all required equipment.
May be required to relieve team members for their breaks.
May be required to certify those employees’ seeking qualification on the job role of Machine Operator.
Assists other levels of Operators as needed and maintains self‑direction to get the work completed when leadership is absent or unavailable.
Completes line set‑ups, startup and changeover activities.
Responsible for preventative maintenance activities.
Can perform intermediate maintenance tasks including but not limited to: line electronics, repairing air leaks, basic camera adjustments etc.
Completes advanced tooling changes.
Completes advanced SAP transactions.
Identifies and recovers machine faults.
Actively pursues other duties during down time.
Completes other job duties as delegated by department Shift Supervisor or Manager.
Completes all required departmental documentation by the end of the shift.
Maintains Cycle Time hitting hourly counts, troubleshooting any deviations, and escalating.
Submits and closes tickets through the Maintenance request management system (work order request system).
Spends time learning from and training with Senior Operators.
Performs preventative maintenance weekly ensuring completion, monitors schedule downtime for completion.
Addresses urgent machine breakdowns, troubleshoots, and escalates.
Performs more advanced changeovers (anything more advanced than program change or product swap).
Performs wheel change/simple setups, steady rests, and head‑to‑tail.
Performs camera adjustments/radial alignment.
Performs tooling audits, VSU audits.
Engages in and promotes a learning culture at thyssenkrupp by sharing knowledge and training with other employees.
Cross trains into different areas as needed to help maintain production demands.
Other duties as assigned.
