CLASSIFICATION : Personnel System - Requires satisfactory completion of a six month probationary period.

PAY GRADE : 115

SAFETY SENSITIVE : Yes, Subject to random drug testing per the Athens-Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance.

Purpose of Job The purpose of this job is to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and components associated with the operation and maintenance of Athens-Clarke County electrical systems, equipment and components. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, installing and repairing existing electrical systems, performing new wiring projects, inspecting equipment for code compliance, performing preventative maintenance, maintaining records, and performing additional tasks as assigned.

Job Related Requirements Work Schedule : Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. Subject to call back after hours and weekends. May occasionally be required to work outside of normal business hours. Subject to On-call schedule. May be required to work on religious holidays. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Must work cooperatively with others. When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy.

Vocational or Technical Diploma with two years of electrical construction experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Valid driver's license required. Possession of a Georgia State Unrestricted Electrical Contractor's License is preferred. One year of supervisory experience preferred as applicable for assigned Department.

Responsibilities

Design and install, repair, and maintain new and existing electrical equipment, power circuits, control circuits, and lighting circuits, including three phase power systems and analog and digital motor control circuits.

Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder diagrams, and blueprints.

Troubleshoot electrical systems.

Use volt‑ohm meters, current meters, watt‑hour meters, phase rotation meters, and megometers.

Use infra‑red temperature gauge in diagnosis of electrical equipment and HVAC systems.

Repair and replace lighting fixtures for all buildings and facilities for Athens-Clarke County.

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance for all equipment and maintain related records.

Operate and maintain generators.

Operate various types of heavy equipment such as ditching machines, bucket trucks, and backhoes.

Inspect and maintain theft and fire alarm systems, telecommunication and data system cables and connections.

Coordinate work with various contractors and inspect new electrical installations for code compliance. Maintain inventory of supplies and parts, ordering replacements when needed.

Maintain, repair, and calibrate flow meters and sampling devices.

Respond to emergency service requests as a participant in division's on‑call program.

Work closely with other Maintenance personnel on multi‑craft projects.

Maintain records and file reports pertaining to work assignments. Perform other duties as required.

Standard practices, methods, materials, and tools attributable to electrical systems.

Electrical and building codes and regulations.

Terminology used within the division and within the electrical trade.

Electrical system installation, repair, maintenance, federal, state, and local electrical codes, and blueprints and electrical schematics.

Use of computers and SCADA software.

Use of various electrician tools and equipment and other construction equipment.

Use and operation of various electrical and construction tools and equipment.

Diagnose and correct electrical problems.

Supervise and train electricians and maintenance technicians in the repair and replacement of electrical fixtures.

Communicate effectively with supervisors, work crews, and other staff members.

Use independent judgment in routine and non‑routine situations.

Handle required mathematical calculations.

Plan, organize and/or prioritize daily assignments and work activities.

Comprehend and apply regulations and procedures of the division.

Maintain an assortment of records, reports, and information in an effective manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Physical ability to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including utility truck, bucket truck, trenching machine, drills, ladders, hand trucks, circuit testers, hand tools and other electrical and construction equipment.

Ability to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and other tasks.

Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.

Meet physical demand requirements at levels of medium work.

Compare or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics of data, people, or things.

Hear, speak, convey or exchange information; give or receive assignments; interact with co‑workers or assistants.

Read a variety of electrical blueprints, work orders, employee evaluations, invoices, informational documentation, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures.

Write daily reports, purchase orders, and disciplinary reports using prescribed formats with correct punctuation, grammar, diction, and style.

Speak to people with poise, voice control, and confidence.

Learn and understand complex principles and techniques; acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation; make independent judgment in absence of management.

Record and deliver information; explain procedures; follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of administrative, technical or professional languages including mechanical and electrical terminology.

Utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; determine percentages; interpret graphs; perform calculations involving variables, formulas, square roots, and polynomials.

Inspect items for proper length, width, and shape visually with electrical and construction equipment.

Coordinate hands, fingers, and eyes accurately in using electrical and construction equipment; manipulate equipment, drill, cut, saw, rivet, press, tighten, loosen, measure, insert, and align objects as necessary.

Use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities; have moderate levels of eye, hand, and foot coordination.

Differentiating between colors and shades of color.

Deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions; adapt to moderate stress during emergencies.

Talk and/or hear: express ideas by means of spoken words; perceive sounds by ear.
