Job Summary Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Historic Museums, the Museum Assistant will aid in planning and coordinating the museum's tourism programs. They will develop and implement educational programming and outreach, and docent programs. The Museum Assistant also serves as a curator of affiliated sites; assists in providing archival and accession file maintenance; assists with social media pages; conducts historical research; assists the Executive Director in soliciting donations for the museum; develops and coordinates special events; and contributes to grants to support the museum's programming and initiatives. The Museum Assistant will also train and supervise all paid museum interpreters and contribute to other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Operations - 30%

Maintain collections management program and coordinate all docent activities.

Outreach - 30%

Develop and implement K-12 and community internal and external programming.

Event Planning - 20%

Coordinate university affiliated site's facility use and rental programs.

Program Support - 15%

Assist Executive Director in the functions of the museum.

Other - 5%

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications Educational Requirements High School Diploma

Other Required Qualifications The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in museum operations, including collections management and program support, with a strong understanding of professional museum practices. Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment is required, along with a proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders on a daily basis. The candidate must have hands-on experience using PastPerfect for collections and related museum functions, as well as proficiency with MS Office and Outlook Calendar for scheduling and information sharing. Working knowledge of social media platforms for institutional communication and engagement is required. Experience supporting or managing external rental or facility-use programs, including coordination, scheduling, and logistics, is also required. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to contribute creatively and collaboratively as part of a team.

Required Experience 1-3 years experience working in a museum environment or similar environment.

Preferred Qualifications Preferred Educational Qualifications Bachelor's degree in History, Museum Studies, Public History, English, Creative Writing, or Education or similar discipline

Preferred Experience Previous leadership experience in museum operations

- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook Calendar for scheduling, coordination, and information sharing

- Understanding of social media platforms and content strategies for museums (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn)

- Knowledge of external rental and facility-use programs, including contracts, policies, pricing, and logistics

- Familiarity with stakeholder engagement, including staff, volunteers, vendors, partners, and the public
