3 weeks ago — Be among the first 25 applicants Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS) is actively seeking Engineering, Professional, Technical, and administrative support personnel to serve as part of a staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at the Y‑12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, with day‑to‑day direction and assignments from Y‑12 staff. Pay, benefits, Human Resources, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS. Qualified applicants must be US citizens, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre‑employment requirements—including any required physicals, drug screens, and/or background investigations—to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy. Responsibilities
Routine hands‑on work that includes preparation of samples for metallographic examination—sawing, mounting, grinding, polishing, and chemical etching of samples for evaluation using optical microscopes and other analytical instruments. Additional general foundry activities such as melting and casting, sawing, shearing, drilling, coating of crucibles and molds, cleaning of materials (solvent, acid, and caustic), pressing and swaging, and heat‑treating depleted uranium and depleted uranium alloys to support research and development activities. Other work‑type activities: taking inventory of materials (e.g., uranium, chemicals, equipment), handling/packaging of wastes (radiological/non‑radiological), handling gas cylinders, and housekeeping or cleaning of work areas. Cleaning the inside of furnaces, replacing thermocouples, replacing sensors and gauges, and performing furnace leak checks. Qualifications
Associate’s degree or higher in a technical field and 10 to 15 years of related experience, or a high‑school diploma and 20+ years of relevant experience; demonstrated in‑depth knowledge and skills in a technical specialty. Individuals may lead other technicians by planning and providing work direction, and are recognized as experts in their field. Q Clearance. The position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy and is designated as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing position. WSAP positions require participation in an ongoing random drug‑testing program in addition to the pre‑employment drug screen. Pre‑employment drug screen – external applicants selected for this position must successfully complete a post‑offer pre‑employment drug test. Medical exam(s) – job‑related pre‑placement medical examinations may be required for this position.
