This full‑time (40 hours per week) role requires on‑call, overtime, nights, alternating shifts, weekends, holidays and travel to and at job sites for extended periods. Training is company‑paid and includes travel to the BNSF Training Center.
Key Responsibilities
Repair and rebuild railroad track, pulling spikes, cutting, welding, or drilling rail.
Maintain a clean right of way by removing hazards such as brush, trees, vegetation, litter, and cargo spillage.
Compress ballast manually, remove or install ties, cut and adjust rail, and lift and carry materials.
Operate power hand tools (electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic) such as drills, impact wrenches, jacks, power saws, and grinders, as well as non‑powered hand tools.
Work safely in diverse and extreme weather conditions, uneven surfaces, loud noises, fumes, and around heavy or moving machinery.
Participate in daily safety conversations and adhere to all safety regulations, rules, and policies.
Basic Qualifications
Must be able to work promptly and in the future without BNSF assistance for employment authorization.
Be at least 18 years old (or will be by the start date).
Possess a valid state‑issued driver’s license.
Be able to report for duty at the designated work location.
Work safely under the specified working conditions.
Work the required shift hours and travel duties.
Read, write, and speak English fluently.
Remain on job sites in the designated seniority region for extended periods, including days or weeks at a time.
Lift and carry up to 60 lbs occasionally.
Distinguish colors (red, blue, green, yellow, lunar light) and recognize verbal and non‑verbal signals.
Use hands to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning, and pulling, and climb on/off equipment occasionally.
Follow safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment.
