General Function Performs a variety of semi-skilled work in the operation of simple to moderately complex Public Works equipment. Work involves the operation of equipment with mechanical controls requiring some proficiency and ability. Work is performed under general supervision except in situations where the assignments are routine in nature. Such work activities may include all phases of the City’s total infrastructure repair and maintenance. Work performance is evaluated through observation of results obtained and occasionally while work is in progress.

Supervisory Responsibilities As Assigned by the Superintendent
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safely operates light trucks, backhoes, payloaders, road graders, street sweepers, dump trucks, and other related types of equipment.
Performs daily safety inspections of assigned equipment prior to and after use.
Performs routine operator service and maintenance as needed.
Prepares and maintains records and reports as required.
May direct and participate in the assigned task.
May have to perform repair work on equipment that breaks down while in service; if not able to do so, initiates proper action to have equipment repaired. Required to wash equipment periodically.
Will be responsible for learning the service routes and be familiar with the street layout.
Mixes, pours, and finishes concrete.
Assists in the installation and repair of storm drainage structures, sidewalks, and roadways.
Respond to after-hours emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Type of Appointment/Work hours
Full-time/Regular in-person position.
Standard workweek, which is forty (40) hours of work per week consisting of five (5) days of eight (8) hours per day. The workday may be varied for the efficient delivery of public service.
Will be required to work other than the standard workweek on occasion, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Will be required to work occasional overtime or shift assignments, if applicable.
Requirements
Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalency.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience.
The nature of the job requires physical strength, agility, coordination, and dexterity.
Outside work in sometimes adverse weather conditions is required.
Must have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Must possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) with Tanker Endorsement.
Must pass the background screening process.
