The Media Services and AV Technician (MS/AV Tech) reports to the Director of Digital Program Management and Media Services and plays a critical role in the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of audiovisual (AV) equipment and systems for the Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA). The MS/AV Tech is primarily responsible for ensuring seamless execution of live, virtual, and hybrid events through hands‑on equipment setup, active operation of AV systems, and post‑event breakdown.
In addition to event support, this role encompasses essential administrative tasks, including equipment scheduling, maintenance logs, system documentation, and inventory management, to ensure the optimal functionality and reliability of AV systems across the institution.
The MS/AV Tech will also contribute to the creation of audiovisual content, including scriptwriting, filming, video editing, and sound design, to support the CMA’s media production needs. Creative project work will be assigned as scheduling permits, with a primary focus on AV operations and system support. The technician may also provide periodic support to the ARTLENS Gallery as a Gallery Technician.
Requirements and Key Competencies
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Film/Photography or related field and four to six years’ experience in Event Production, Live Events, Theatre, Broadcasting, or Audiovisual Consulting/Engineering. Comprehensive hands‑on AV equipment troubleshooting experience and strong working knowledge of current network protocols, operating systems, software, and standards, including fiber optics and media converters, required. Certifications in media systems are preferred. Knowledge of video conferencing, cameras, capture devices, presentation software, and other AV tools, including Microsoft Teams, Adobe Creative Suite, and Zoom, is preferred. Additionally, familiarity with hardware from Newtek, Analogway, Sony, Panasonic, and Yamaha is also preferred.
Additional experience in Content Creation, Video Filming, Editing, and Post‑Production, with a portfolio of work, is preferred.
Keen attention to detail and strong customer service orientation required.
The employee must also be able to communicate effectively and work successfully with others.
Responsibilities
Ensure that equipment is correctly set up, tested, and operational in alignment with event booking requests. Coordinate logistics for events, presentations, and productions to ensure seamless execution. Must proactively identify and communicate programming changes and resource conflicts.
Set up, configure, test, operate, monitor, and troubleshoot AV equipment, including teleconferencing systems, multimedia devices, televisions, monitors, projectors, recording equipment, speaker sets, digital cameras/camcorders, and other presentation technologies.
Perform on‑site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of AV hardware and system issues for various end‑users. Recommend and implement corrective solutions, including coordinating off‑site repairs as necessary.
Receive and respond to incoming service requests, emails, and calls regarding AV software and hardware issues. Provide timely and professional support to ensure minimal disruption to events and operations.
Communicate technical issues promptly to the manager or supervisor to ensure service continuity and avoid delays for clients and end‑users.
Transport AV equipment throughout the facility safely and efficiently using appropriate methods such as hand‑carrying or hand carts.
Maintain detailed records of AV equipment setup, failure, repairs, installations, removals, and maintenance activities.
Manage and maintain an accurate inventory of all AV equipment and parts. Ensure all AV equipment is appropriately labeled and tracked.
Assist with system upgrades and new installations.
Assist in the creation of audiovisual content by producing, filming, and editing video and multimedia projects to meet the museum’s needs and goals, when capacity allows.
Provide presentation‑quality audiovisual materials to support museum programming, including auditorium events.
Salary: $65,000, Full‑time work is 35 hours per week; occasional overtime might be necessary. The position comes with a generous package of benefits, listed below.
