Job Summary
This seasonal position supports the care and maintenance of Door County’s parks from April through October or November. Under the direction of the Maintenance Technician Parks Lead or Parks Manager, the role performs custodial, groundskeeping, and maintenance tasks to ensure safe, clean, and welcoming recreational spaces. The position requires punctual, reliable work and effective interaction with the public.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Cleans public restrooms, pavilions, and recreational facilities; replaces supplies and empties trash.
Conducts daily policing of park grounds; picks up litter and monitors overall cleanliness.
Operates lawn care equipment, including riding and push mowers, trimmers, blowers, and pruners to maintain picnic areas, trails, and open spaces.
Performs basic operational maintenance on vehicles, trailers, and groundskeeping tools; reports issues as needed.
Applies fertilizers and chemicals under direction and in compliance with safety standards.
Assists in installing and removing docks in spring and fall; may operate tractors, wood chippers, and similar machinery after training.
Sets up and maintains park equipment for public events and daily use, including picnic tables, benches, grills, and playground items.
Completes basic repairs such as painting, replacing fixtures, or repairing worn equipment.
Supports other park staff with special maintenance or construction projects.
Provides information to park visitors regarding amenities, rules, and directions in a courteous and helpful manner.

Performs outdoor labor in various weather conditions for extended periods.
Teamwork:
Collaborates with coworkers to complete shared projects and ensure park readiness.
Required Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to maintain it.
Preferred Education & Experience
Prior experience in groundskeeping, custodial services, or general maintenance.
Familiarity with park or recreational facility operations.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements This position is primarily outdoors (approximately 95% of the time), with exposure to varying weather conditions. Tasks require bending, kneeling, crawling, standing, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Workers may encounter mechanical hazards, noise, vibration, and occasional exposure to chemicals and fumes. Safety equipment is provided and required when appropriate. Work schedules may include early mornings, weekends, and occasional overtime, with adjustments based on weather or seasonal needs.
