Job Overview A Patient Access Senior Representative demonstrates strong customer service orientation while handling all business functions in an assigned area, including reception, scheduling, and registering patients for appointments and/or procedures.
Responsibilities
Greet patients and secure appropriate patient information.
Ensure registration data is correct and accurate.
Validate insurance eligibility, enter information into appropriate systems, and collect co‑pay (if applicable).
Assist with financial counseling and financial clearance as necessary.
Perform all aspects of the Patient Access Representative position as needed.
Cross‑cover all Patient Access functions within the department and/or clinic.
Function in a self‑directed manner to accomplish routine activities.
Orient and train new hires to the service area.
Notify supervisor immediately of issues involving violation of VCUHS policies or procedures.
Assume supervisory responsibilities when applicable: provide training, mentorship, and assist in onboarding of new team members.
Work off‑shifts, weekends, and holidays as required by the assigned area.
May be considered part of essential staffing, depending on the assigned area.

Requirements for Continued Employment: N/A
Experience
Minimum of one (1) year of previous patient scheduling/registration work experience in a healthcare setting.
Strong customer service skills and patient/customer‑centered focus in a positive manner in all situations.
Education & Training
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or closely related field from an accredited program.
Physical Requirements
Lifting less than 20 lbs.
Prolonged sitting and walking (distance).
Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, logical thinking.
Emotional & Cognitive Skills
Fast‑paced environment.
Ability to handle multiple priorities.
Ability to adapt to frequent change.
