Job Summary The Specialty Pharmacy Technician - Patient Care Coordinator is primarily the first contact for both referral sources and patients with our pharmacy. As such, the technician should strive to build relationships with these customers to increase satisfaction, compliance, and referrals.
Duties/Responsibilities
Primarily responsible for assisting Vital Care Rx processes through to completion.
Answer phone & assist customers.
Intake/Process referrals through to completion.
Send fax confirmation.
Identify & complete necessary PA’s.
Contact patient(s) to make arrangements of financial responsibility & set up delivery.
Assist with enrollment of PAP if necessary.
Follow‑up with insurance status if needed.
Notify referral source of status & start of care.
Ensure proper reimbursement by third party.
Obtain copay collection prior to shipment.
Process labels, blister pack (if necessary) & pack Rx’s for shipment daily.
Document all correspondence in CareTend Progress Notes.
Track refills & schedule accordingly with patients to assure timely delivery.
Ensure needed paperwork is maintained in CareTend according to document key.
Ensure accreditation standards/objectives are being followed.
Be aware of changing AWP/Costs to ensure optimum reimbursement is obtained.
Manage & properly control inventory.
Check in daily orders & input into Caretend.
Ensure inventory is stored properly.
Process returns of unused/un‑needed meds.
Pull out of dates.
Ensure needed data points for reports are entered into CareTend.
Be knowledgeable of our services and be able to help educate staff/referral source.
Work with marketing staff to identify & correct opportunities with referral sources.
Communicate with office/marketing staff about clinics preferably through email.
Assist elsewhere in the office when and if possible, to the best of your ability.
Required Skills/Abilities
Experience in pharmacy practice or health care setting helpful.
Good interactive skills with employees, supervisors, referral sources, and consumers.
Education and Experience
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must be 18 years of age.
Completion of pharmacy technician training preferred.
Registered with State Board of Pharmacy in Mississippi.
Physical Requirements
May require extended periods of sitting for 6-8 hours.
May require frequent use of computer keyboard & sitting for extended periods of time for 6-8 hours.
