Position Summary The TRS Investment Officer 2 supports the Public Equities team through robust quantitative research and technical infrastructure that support systematic investment strategies. The position centers on the development and testing of Python-based factor models, alpha signals, and risk forecasting tools. This role requires close collaboration with investment information and technology teams to improve automation, data workflows, and portfolio analytics.
Minimum Qualifications A bachelor’s degree and three years of investment experience either directly engaged in, or in support of, trading and portfolio management or investment research. This experience must include two years of experience in one of the following: portfolio management, manager selection of investment research, specializing in publicly traded equities at either a buy‑side organization, broker dealer, or public pension plan, with at least $1 billion in assets under management.
Substitution:
A master’s degree in business administration or a closely related field may substitute for one year of experience; successful completion of all three levels of the CFA exam may substitute for one year of experience; a Certificate in Investment Performance Management may substitute for six months of experience. A maximum of one year of experience substitution is permitted.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in a STEM field
Three years of experience in any of the following areas: Quantitative research, portfolio management or risk analytics at a top tier financial services firm or institutional asset manager.
Experience applying portfolio management tools and concepts including risk modeling, portfolio construction, and performance attribution.
Applying technology in support of investment functions
Strong programming skills in Python
Strong knowledge of statistical analysis and data modeling techniques
Experience in data management, including data cleaning, preprocessing, and analysis
Knowledge of financial risk management, portfolio theory and optimization
Working knowledge of investment analytics, such as Factset, Barra, Aladdin, eVestment
Good communication skills - written and verbal
Detail oriented, analytical and able to synthesize data and make logical decisions
Intellectually curious, creative, and open to exploring new ideas
Team player with the ability to work independently
Strong work ethic and integrity
Work Modality
Currently we have a hybrid work schedule which may be subject to change in the future.
This position will require some travel.
Job Duties The duties of the TRS Investment Officer 2-Public Equities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Conduct quantitative research on factor models, alpha signals, risk forecasts, and systematic portfolio construction techniques
Develop, test, and maintain Python-based research code, backtests, and quantitative model components
Maintain and enhance internal quantitative tools and investment technology platforms supporting public equity strategies
Collaborate with investment information systems teams to improve automation, data pipelines, and workflow efficiency
Support the development and enhancement of quantitative models, tools and dashboard to evaluate portfolio performance, exposures, factor sensitivities, and scenario analysis for internal and external strategies
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborate on cross‑functional projects and provide support to broader Public Equities team initiatives as needed
Attend conferences and educational sessions to gain market insights and network with peers
Attend various committee and quarterly board meetings, as necessary, presenting relevant material
Represent Public Equities as needed on various System wide initiatives and projects
Salary Grade This position is a Grade 23
Salary Range $99,183 - $129,410
