Company Overview Our client is a civil and environmental consulting firm providing professional land surveying services in support of infrastructure, land development, and environmental projects. The firm operates on a billable, project-based consulting model and values technical accuracy, reliability, and long-term team stability.
Position Overview We are seeking a
Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)
who will be responsible for overseeing all things land survey, ensuring accuracy, compliance with regulatory requirements, and timely project delivery. The PLS will also play a crucial role in supporting our engineering projects by providing precise data and boundary information. This is a senior role that will serve as a key leader to help elevate standards, oversee crews, and shape STE’s survey practice.
Ideally ≤ 1 hour commute each way; relocation encouraged if farther.
Key Responsibilities
Lead our team of survey technicians in best practices, as well as enhance current standards and procedures
Conduct various types of surveys, including boundary, ALTA, topographic, and construction surveys
Utilize advanced surveying equipment and software to collect accurate data, as well as train new team members
Analyze survey reports, maps, and other data to plan survey projects
Survey mapping, drafting, plan creation, etc.
Establish and re-establish property boundaries using legal documents, field measurements, and mathematical computations
Verify accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations, in compliance with state and local regulations
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, other internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of survey data into project designs
Stay updated on state and local laws and regulations pertaining to land surveying
Maintain professional standards, documentation, and reporting
Mentor and train junior surveyors and support staff as needed
Qualifications Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field
Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license
issued in Massachusetts
Minimum 4 years of experience in land surveying, with a demonstrated track record of successful projects
Strong knowledge of surveying principles, legal aspects, and geodetic control networks
Proficient in relevant software, e.g. AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, Carlson
Ability to commute within approximately
1 hour
of the office location or relocate
Preferred Qualifications
PLS license in additional states (RI, CT, NH) with intent or eligibility for MA reciprocity
Senior-level experience in consulting environments
Long-term career orientation
Technology & Innovation Our client uses modern systems like RTK GNSS systems, robotic total stations, Carlson/AutoCAD, and cloud-based data workflows. Experience with hydrographic, bathymetric, drone/UAS mapping or laser scanning is a plus.
