In the role of Sr. Manufacturing Systems Engineer (Brewing & Utilities) working in the Shenandoah Brewery, you will be part of the Information Technology team. This role is pivotal in driving the integration and optimization of manufacturing systems, increasing automation in manufacturing operations, and leading the execution of strategic technology initiatives. In the role, you operate as the primary point of contact between IT and brewing and utilities services and are a trusted and credible technology thought leader. To be successful, you can influence stakeholders to adopt technology and are relentless in building/enhancing technology capabilities. You will help develop and deliver automation through IT and OT solutions to realize continuous improvement and process optimization in brewing and utilities process paths.

This position reports to the Brewery Systems Manager (BSM) and is highly visible within the brewery. It works closely with a variety of stakeholders at multiple levels within the brewery and IT, and with Systems Engineers to support automation integration into MES plant‑floor SCADA architecture. You will function as the technical lead for future process‑control systems automation and integration opportunities through active project participation in enterprise‑driven capital projects impacting the brewery.

What You’ll Be Brewing

Provides technical leadership and expert technical support to on‑shift Engineering Technicians.

Provides ongoing coaching and training to Plant Operations in the use and adoption of process‑control automation and MES solutions.

Be the subject‑matter expert for the entire technology stack within the brewing & utilities domain.

Ensures sustained uptime of the brewery Process Automation and MES solutions in a 24×7 operating environment through strong governance and best practices.

Work in lockstep with solution delivery teams and provide expertise to influence improvement/design of technology solutions.

Ensures Process Automation and MES system software and hardware are at appropriate revision levels.

Responsible for software change management and version control of production instances of process automation system.

Active initiative management (IM) pillar member to ensure change initiatives are integrated smoothly into production across the brewery.

Occasionally cover for the BSM and other team members.

Provide after‑hours on‑call support on a rotational basis.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s in Engineering, Computer Sciences, Chemical Engineering or related field is preferred.

Previous manufacturing experience (5+ years) in process automation control design and/or programming is required.

Proficiency in Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).

Experience in ProLeit Brewmaxx, GE Proficy, Valmet D/3, SQL, Rockwell PLCs, Wonderware, and SAP (preferred).

Preferred: Service Management and Delivery (ITIL Process Knowledge).

Preferred: Project Management experience.

Pay and Benefits Posting salary range:

$109,100.00 – $143,200.00

(posting salary range) +15% target short‑term incentive + $23,000 on average spent on benefits per employee, including but not limited to health, dental, vision, retirement with above‑market employer match, wellness incentives and EAP + paid time off (including holidays, vacation days, and sick days).

The posting range provided above for salary is what we, in good faith, believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We ultimately pay based on a number of non‑discriminatory factors that inform pay decisions, including but not limited to the required work location, previous work experience, skill set and internal equity.
