About Optisys Optisys is an innovative antenna technology company based in Salt Lake City, Utah. We combine advanced RF design with metal additive manufacturing to create highly integrated, market‑leading solutions for commercial aerospace and defense.

Position Summary As Optisys continues to grow, we’re augmenting our antenna engineering capabilities to drive automated antenna design across our product space. We’re seeking a highly capable Antenna RF Engineer who can design quickly, drawing on a deep understanding of antenna physics, to come to creative designs that take advantage of metal AM to provide mass customization for customers. Will have access to analytical tools such as Ansys HFSS, and needs to know how to simplify models to drive design decisions quickly. At the same time, they should be considering the process to be able to re‑design the next version more automatically.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a pioneering environment — someone who’s comfortable working with a wide‑open design space but still maximizes the re‑use of previous lessons learned. This person is highly creative and innovative. They are interested in learning new tools and techniques quickly and communicate clearly with technical teams and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Antenna design and analysis of RF components and systems such as waveguides, cavity filters, slot arrays, tightly coupled dipole arrays, horns, polarizers, couplers, combiners, circulators, etc.

Work closely with mechanical, manufacturing, and software engineers to converge on solutions designed to take advantage of metal additive manufacturing and be scalable.

Design creative new shapes and use HFSS design and other tools to perform sensitivity studies and optimization of those shapes.

Presentation of designs and decision justification to peers and customers.

Build parameterized models that can be scripted to duplicate design efforts.

Support prototype fabrication, validation, and test, including use of VNAs and anechoic chambers.

Participate in proposal development and feasibility studies for new programs.

Initial Focus (First 3 Months)

Get comfortable in HFSS modeling and use of Optisys best practices, tools and methods.

Learn about the details and physics of metal additive manufacturing to help drive decisions and become familiar with Design For Additive Manufacturing. Understand it’s strengths and weaknesses.

Participate in at least one product design from scratch through analysis, reviews, documentation, fabrication and verification.

Required Skills & Abilities

Solid understanding of the underlying physics of RF transmissions through space and waveguide structures, including active and passive S‑parameters, waveguide modes, directivity, polarization, and other key antenna performance parameters.

Experience performing sensitivity studies and optimization of creative new shapes; able to focus on the key elements that drive the design and minimize analysis time.

Strong creative problem‑solving abilities for complex RF challenges.

Advanced proficiency of Ansys HFSS.

Capable of bench and antenna range testing with a network analyzer.

Hands‑on troubleshooting skills of fabricated hardware.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Skilled in Python or other engineering scripting languages.

Expert in configuration management and other basic engineering disciplines.

Education & Experience

BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field with an emphasis on electromagnetics/RF/Antennas with additional design experience and demonstrated success in waveguide antenna design (i.e. patents or published papers) will be considered.

5–10 years of experience directly in antenna and waveguide design engineering of S through Ka‑band components.

Preferred

Expertise in Ansys optiSLang or highly motivated to learn it.

Good experience with additive manufacturing.

Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, NX, etc.

Other Requirements

U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident (Green Card).

Hybrid work schedule, remote outside of Salt Lake area.

Supervisory Responsibilities None.
