We are currently recruiting for 10 positions Engineering Technician Apprentices or Journey Level to join our team in the following locations:

Wisconsin Rapids

Fond du Lac

Fond du Lac - Resource

Baraboo

Elkhorn

Platteville

Beloit - Resource

Job Summary Engineering Technicians perform engineering detail (field) work for our customers on electric and/or gas projects. This position blends field and office work.

District District crews work on new customer, small‑scope projects. They handle new service connections, minor upgrades, and other rapid‑design tasks within their districts.

Resource Resource crews manage large‑scale, complex projects, such as road relocations, rebuilds, and infrastructure upgrades. They can work across multiple districts and involve strategic planning and collaboration.

The Apprenticeship Experience

Apprentices work alongside Journeymen and Leads to receive comprehensive training.

The program is four years and includes classroom and on‑the‑job training, with some travel within Wisconsin.

What You Will Do

Under direction and within established policies, perform engineering detail tasks in the office and field.

Detail, prepare, and close work orders; prepare material lists, tickets, and transfers.

Prepare estimates for work orders, budgets, customer contributions, and charges.

Perform field tasks such as locating service entrances, staking, locating underground pipe, cable, and other obstructions; survey work of moderate difficulty; prepare distribution easements; perform soil probes; conduct field checks and inventories; gather information for permits, licenses, joint‑use applications; install location number tags.

Maintain office records such as work‑order and budget registers, local property records, engineering, accounting, rate, store, and budget records; assist in preparing voltage, gas pressure, load, and other engineering reports.

Obtain information from engineering prints and prepare maps and sketches.

Prepare maintenance worksheets, accident reports, and claim forms.

Handle ordinary inquiries involving company procedures, extension rules, service rules, code requirements, service entrance and metering requirements.

Keep current knowledge of company procedures, rates, rules, practices, standards, and construction material applications.

Perform other duties as related or incidental to this position.

Education Requirements

Associate Degree Preferred.

Required Experience

Completion of the engineering technician apprenticeship and passing the final position qualification examination (for Journey Level).

2–3 years experience in engineering or surveying background.

Other Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to properly design electric and gas distribution systems.

Basic financial skills.

Effective computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, company software.

Advanced knowledge of electrical and gas theory, company safety rules, mathematics (algebra, geometry) and physics.

Knowledge of company construction, engineering and material standards and related practices.

Ability to perform surveying and staking of moderate difficulty.

Knowledge of federal, state, and local codes and regulations applicable to installation of overhead and underground facilities.

Demonstrated time‑management and problem‑solving skills.

Demonstrated ability to handle customer contacts in a manner that encourages positive relations.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job.

Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group.

Pay Range $40.25 – $51.60 per hour.
