Apex Systems is seeking a

Level 2 Systems Engineer

to join an infrastructure team at one of our clients, providing services and software solutions designed to bring stakeholders together and enhance operational efficiency. Our web-based software solutions focus on performance management through transparency, measurable outcomes, and seamless data integration. We believe in leveraging key performance indicators to drive continuous improvement.

The Infrastructure team supports multiple environments comprised of various applications and technologies. These applications enable business processes and associated procedures, forming a complex platform that captures, transmits, stores, hosts, retrieves, manipulates, and displays critical business information. The team plays a key role in ensuring consistent uptime for both Non-Production and Production environments, which strongly influences application development and usage across business and technical teams. Responsibilities include patching and upgrading infrastructure, maintaining and updating certificates, performing database changes, enhancing and maintaining systems, providing restorative services, and supporting daily operations.

Vulnerability scanning and remediation

Monitoring and alerting

System administration

Responsibilities

Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools

Ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability

Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify solutions, and implement fixes

Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies

Write and maintain custom scripts to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention

Participate in the design of information and operational support systems

Security administration for SSO / SAML / SSL certificates, including coding for certificate/key deployments in production

Support ongoing software and hardware upgrades/maintenance for middleware, OS, and related products (e.g., WebLogic, Tomcat, ESB, AIX)

Support configuration changes and redesign, including instance creation, repurposing, and modifications

Manage internal server account expirations, including coding changes as needed

Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams (platform, networking, Linux, Unix, application performance)

Address security vulnerabilities identified by third-party tools (e.g., Nexpose, penetration testing)

Create and maintain application performance monitoring processes (e.g., Dynatrace, Splunk)

Perform server performance tuning and resolve production support and application stability issues

Qualifications Required

Strong commitment to incorporating security into all decisions and daily responsibilities

5+ years of combined software and infrastructure engineering experience

5+ years of AS400 experience

Experience with System i (iSeries)/Mimix

Database skills (System i, Oracle, Maria)

Database administration experience, including file changes, creations, and support

Mule development and support (all development transactions use Mule for flow control)

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field

Experience with Agile methodology and JIRA

Hands-on experience with Splunk

Experience with Jenkins or other CI/CD tools

Experience with AWS

Experience with ESB technology
