Overview

This position performs specialized duties related to the department's property tax and accounting operations. Responsibilities

Prepares and processes annual statements for mailing. Ensures annual and timely WCAD monthly changes to the tax roll; reviews all changes individually to ensure that values and exemptions are correct. Prepares and sends statements for WCAD changes to the tax roll. Prepares rollback taxes. Prepares refund requests. Prepares refund checks for Laredo Community College. Trains employees in system upgrades and in processing tax roll changes. Prepares delinquent tax statements. Completes a variety of forms for taxpayers. Processes property tax transactions. Provides information to the public as requested. Maintains accurate accounting of all cash and check transactions to properly balance the cash box. Processes motor vehicle registration renewals. Performs any other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of the property tax code. Knowledge of motor vehicle registration laws. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Knowledge of customer service principles and practices. Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions. Skill in the preparation of clear and precise reports. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language. Qualifications

Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution. Must have at least one (1) year of relevant experience. Must be able to type 30 words per minute. Complexity/Scope of Work

The work consists of related specialized duties. Strict regulations contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to perform specialized duties related to the collection of property taxes. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of department operations. Physical Demands/Work Environment

Occasionally: Moving to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Occasionally: Adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions. Occasionally: Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds. Constantly: Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods. Constantly: Communicating with others to exchange information. Constantly: Repeating motions that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Constantly: Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. Constantly: Working in noisy environments. Constantly: Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing. The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required. This position

is covered

by Civil Service; therefore, it is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies. Valid Texas Driver’s License. If the applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver’s License must be obtained prior to employment.
