Position Summary The Engineering Design Tech I will be a key member of the Design and Drafting Services Group that is an integral part of the CCG Engineering Organization. The Design Tech will be responsible for generating models, designs, drawings and specifications for components, subassemblies and assemblies for HVAC products that meet or exceed best‑in‑class performance and reliability targets across multiple platforms and product families, as well as manufacturing support for existing products. The Design Tech will have firsthand knowledge and experience in mechanical design and applications, manufacturing & assembly methods, and industry standards. Throughout their career, the Design Tech will have assignments of increasing responsibility to grow professionally and become a critical contributor to strategic CCG initiatives.
Essential Functions
Work in a team environment to design and optimize systems and components employing the latest modeling software and design techniques, including but not limited to sheet metal fabrication, piping and component layout, wiring diagrams and electrical schematics.
Create documentation to facilitate the manufacturing process.
Provide direction and details for building prototypes, structuring bill‑of‑materials (BOMs) and assembling products in a production environment.
Assist in real‑time root cause analysis and problem resolution for products flowing through the manufacturing assembly lines.
Interface with manufacturing personnel to optimize assembly methods and streamline manufacturing processes.
Generate system and component models, drawings, specifications, summary reports and standard work instructions.
Present work status to the engineering team and other company functions.
Follow verbal and written instructions from Project Engineers, Designers, Senior Technicians and Engineering Services Managers.
Follow processes and procedures for design and detail of parts and assemblies.
Read and interpret sheet metal drawings, wiring diagrams, and develop wire charts.
Create design assemblies and make modifications with a minimum of supervision.
Ability to work with competing demands.
Use AS400 Product Inquiry and Product Structure Inquiry screens.
Identify fit, form, and function of the major components of a heat pump and fan coil systems.
Maintain a clean work environment per established guidelines in accordance with 5S principles.
Consistently maintain a clean and well‑organized work area.
Work flexible hours; may include Saturdays and overtime.
Report any unsafe conditions or actions, and promote safe working conditions and environment.
Follow safety guidelines and policies and always ensure safe working practices.
Any other duties assigned by Engineering Services Management.
Skills & Abilities Education
Associate degree, technical certification or equivalent experience in Mechanical Design & Drafting.
Experience
Mid‑Level: 3 years of Mechanical Design technical experience preferred.
Computer Skills
Knowledge of CREO 3D modeling software, Windchill database management, ACAD.
Database software; AS400.
Skilled with Microsoft Office suite products (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Other Requirements
Knowledge of basic refrigeration concepts and tools; understanding of the basic refrigeration cycle and ability to identify basic components and how they interact.
Knowledge of basic electrical concepts.
Knowledge and use of basic hand tools, sheet metal tools, air, and motorized tools such as screw guns and drills.
