Accountant
Location: Westport, CT (5 Days Onsite with Flexibility)
Base pay range $80,000.00/yr - $110,000.00/yr
Position Summary We are seeking an Accountant to join a stable, global transportation and logistics organization with a strong reputation for long-term employee retention and work-life balance. This role supports a complex, multi-entity accounting environment and offers meaningful exposure to operational accounting, international activity, and consolidation work.
Responsibilities General Accounting & Month-End Close
Prepare and post journal entries for month-end and year-end close
Perform timely and accurate bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
Maintain general ledger accuracy across multiple entities
Assist with accruals, prepaid expenses, and expense allocations
Support intercompany accounting and eliminations
Participate in a structured two-week close process across 40+ entities
Fixed Assets & Leases
Maintain fixed asset records for vessels and other capital assets
Record depreciation, asset disposals, transfers, and impairments
Support lease accounting activities under ASC 842
Reconcile fixed asset and lease schedules to the general ledger
Operational & Industry-Specific Accounting
Support revenue cutoff and service-period accounting
Assist with cost-of-operations and logistics-related accounting
Partner with operations and logistics teams to ensure financial accuracy
Support accounting for interrelated domestic and international entities
Exposure to foreign exchange activity is a plus
Audit & Compliance Support
Prepare audit schedules and PBC documentation
Support internal and external audit requests
Assist with tax preparation by providing reconciliations and schedules
Support internal controls and documentation efforts
Process Improvement & Systems
Identify opportunities to improve close efficiency and reporting accuracy
Assist with ERP and accounting system enhancements
Support documentation of accounting processes and procedures
Team & Structure
Reports to the Accounting Manager
Part of a 10-person accounting and finance team
Fully cross-trained team with strong collaboration and coverage
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
3-6+ years of hands‑on general ledger accounting experience
Experience in service, logistics, distribution, transportation, or asset‑intensive environments preferred
Multi‑entity and consolidation experience a plus
Foreign exchange exposure is a plus
Strong Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, lookups)
Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Intacct, or similar)
Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail
Clear, professional communication style
CPA preferred but not required. Compensation
Base salary range: Up to $110,000 DOE
