Job Title:
Mainframe Technical Support (CICS, MQSeries)
Location:
Fully Remote (CST)
Pay Range:
$55-$65/hr W2
Description The client is seeking one full‑time resource to provide technical support for the client’s online transaction processing software. At a high level, the resource will provide middleware software management (CICS, MQSeries), diagnose and resolve mainframe software issues, monitor software performance, provide application support, conduct staff training, and create technical documentation. The work is expected to be done remotely.
Sample Tasks
Installation of IBM CICS and MQSeries and supporting products using the installation tools and steps required by the product vendor.
Maintenance of IBM CICS and MQSeries and supporting products using the installation tools and steps required by the product vendor.
Troubleshoot and resolve software issues for IBM CICS and MQSeries and supporting products such as application contention, program loops, short on storage conditions, MQ messages not reaching the intended destination, MQ Channels no starting, full MQ page sets.
Performance monitoring of IBM CICS and MQSeries and supporting products to ensure efficient CPU and I/O usage, transaction and MQ message throughput.
Application support for needed CICS Table updates, code rollout and for best practices and issues encountered in CICS, MQSeries, and supporting products usage.
Staff training of designated z/OS staff. Training will be provided by the mainframe and production support team.
Optimize mainframe performance
Provide technical leadership and mentoring
Maintain documentation and standards
Ensure compliance with security and accessibility policies
Test code to ensure it produces the desirable results and perform debugging when necessary
Provide application support and assistance on resolution of issues
Attend and participate in meetings and working sessions
Produce technical documentation
Complete assigned duties according to project plans and schedules
Provide testing and implementation of developed and configured elements
Conduct migration applications from development to QA to Production environments
Provide support of and participation in troubleshooting and resolving issues that arise
Provide knowledge transfer
Desired Skills
Experience with CICS, z/OS, SMP/E, Unix System Services
Experience in mainframe operating systems and maintenance
Experience installing and maintaining CICS and MQSeries on z/OS including running commands or using MQ Explorer to manipulate Channels and Queues.
Experience in resolving CICS issues, including looping tasks and storage shortages.
Experience in IBM Job Control Language (JCL), JES2, (SMP/E or z/OSMF).
Knowledge of security within CICS and MQSeries (ACF2/RACF).
Ability to manage and maintain CICS definitions.
Knowledge of CICSPlex and CICS Transaction Gateway and able to analyze CICS Transaction and system dumps.
Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
Ability to lead projects and mentor others
Ability to effectively communicate with technical and non‑technical staff
Experience with performance tuning and security certificate management
