Economic Self-Sufficiency Specialist Supervisor

DESCRIPTION This is work supervising staff in a public assistance unit. The primary duty of the employee in this position is to spend the majority of time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and having the authority to recommend personnel actions. A minimum of one (1) year of ESSS I (Economic Self‑Sufficiency Specialist I) and previous management experience required.

SUPERVISION: Supervises staff who determine eligibility for public assistance programs based on a computer assisted (FLORIDA) eligibility system. Ensures all applicants’ and recipients’ cases are processed accurately, timely and in accordance with current rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Develops or uses tracking systems to monitor case status and ensure staff complete the work required to provide customer service and achieve performance indicators.

Plans workloads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.

MONITORING AND QUALITY REVIEW: Reviews and analyzes case records in accordance with the ESS New Quality Management System. Discusses case findings with staff and uses the case‑reading process as a positive learning experience and to document performance. Ensures all cases are corrected accurately and timely. Develops corrective action plans along with follow‑up as necessary.

ADMINISTRATIVE: Resolves issues from internal and external customers. Evaluates, analyzes, and completes reports. Participates in supervisor conferences and meetings. Attends and participates in trainings and work groups. Completes all personnel‑related activities. Participates in planning and presentation of performance reviews. Participates in operational planning. Ensures that personnel, fiscal and administrative rules, regulations, work processes and operating procedures are followed.

TRAINING/POLICY: Trains employees in methods for performing an effective and efficient job. Reviews, interprets, and coordinates implementation of policies, procedures and directives and provides technical assistance.

INDIVIDUAL CONFERENCES/STAFF MEETINGS: Communicates and documents on a regular basis conferences with employees both individually and in staff meetings. Develops and monitors improvement plans for effectiveness.
