The Project Cost Controller role is focused on the financial health of specific projects, combining proactive cost management and real-time analysis with traditional accounting, billing, and reporting functions. The primary objective is to ensure projects are completed within budget while maximizing profitability and maintaining financial compliance.

This position will support our Lake Mariner Data project located in Barker/Somerset, NY. This is a full-time on-site position.

Key Responsibilities

Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop, manage, and monitor project-specific budgets and financial forecasts. Analyze project-specific financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for operational improvement.

Cost Management and Analysis: Track all project expenses, including labor, materials, and overhead, ensuring accurate cost allocation. Conduct variance analysis, comparing actual costs to the budget and providing commentary on deviations.

Reporting and Documentation: Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, cost reports, and budget status updates for project managers, senior management, and stakeholders. Maintain meticulous financial records for audits.

Invoicing and Compliance: Oversee the billing and invoicing process for clients and manage incoming vendor/subcontractor invoices, ensuring accuracy and timely payment. Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS), and regulatory requirements.

Collaboration and Advisory: Work closely with project executive, project management team and senior management to provide project specific financial insights, recommend cost-saving measures, and support decision‑making.

Monthly Risk Management Support: Assist with month‑end and year‑end closing processes, including Estimated Cost at Completion (ECAC), earned value calculations, cost reconciliations, and billing/cost accruals related to projects.

All activities will be utilizing Sage Timberline, Procore and MS Access based modules to align with project management standards in the company.

Required Qualifications and Skills

A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required.

Two or more years of experience in project accounting, cost accounting, or financial analysis, preferably in a project-based industry such as construction, manufacturing, or engineering.

Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Timberline) and project management software.

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.

Strong understanding of accounting principles and cost management techniques.

Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills to interpret complex financial data.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, work in a deadline‑oriented environment, and be a proactive problem‑solver.

Compensation The minimum and maximum annual salary that O’Connell Electric Company, Inc. believes in good faith to be accurate for this position at the time of this posting is between $85,000 to $110,000 annually.
