Job Title: Pharmacist I (Float) | Location: Newark (Lyons Avenue, Newark, NJ 07112) | Department: Retail Pharmacy | Req #: 0000232185 | Status: Full‑Time | Shift: Day | Pay Range: $65.41 - $81.78 per hour.
Job Overview Acts as a pharmacist ensuring medications are provided safely and rationally according to legal/professional standards. Reviews prescriptions for appropriate medication, dose, interval, and route. Provides drug information and consults with physicians, nurses, other health care providers and patients. Assesses patients’ age‑specific needs for treatment and care. Assists with daily management of staff and systems to meet performance standards and operational efficiencies. Exercises independent decision making.
Does not have one assigned pharmacy; covers all RWJBH Retail Pharmacy locations as needed due to vacations, sick days, or shortages, with last‑minute schedule changes.
Qualifications
Graduate of a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.
Valid pharmacist license from the State of New Jersey.
Minimum of one year’s retail pharmacy experience.
Must maintain an active Pharmacist license/registration in good standing with the NJ Board of Pharmacy.
Scheduling Requirements Day, early evenings, and some weekends when necessary.
Must cover shifts at all RWJBH retail pharmacy locations.
Essential Functions
Responsible for prescription workflow including accurate data entry, handling insurance issues, and verification.
Document changes or notations to original prescriptions when necessary.
Maintain knowledge of insurance rules (Medicare D, Medicaid, commercial).
Provide quality customer service and answer phones in a timely manner.
Provide drug information/consultations with physicians, nurses, other providers, and patients.
Process prescription requests from multiple sources accurately.
Use medication resources to evaluate drug interactions, allergies, etc.
Work with attention to detail, understanding that errors can have serious consequences.
Ensure only pharmacists provide professional consultation and accept new telephoned prescription orders.
Proficient in required pharmacy and departmental software.
Adhere to inventory control policies (CII to CV).
Maintain pharmacy department security and sanitation.
Report theft, diversion, and other medication incidents.
File and maintain daily reports and invoices in order.
Retrieve customer prescriptions for pick‑up and verify correct identity.
Operate cash register (POS) for payment and signatures when called upon.
Perform downtime tasks such as prescription filing and expiration checks.
Assist and supervise pharmacy technicians, delegating tasks during downtime.
Follow USP
medication regulations when required.
Inventory Management
Order wholesalers accurately; resolve discrepancies.
Maintain awareness of paperwork/records per regulations.
Assist with inventory management, returns, and removal of outdated medications.
Ensure timely filing of Cardinal invoices/credits.
Maintain CIM inventory: negative on hand values, high dollar items, and RTS needs.
Return overstock Cardinal items within 30 days to avoid surcharges.
Maintain Pharmacy Pick‑Up Bin and credit returned 14‑day scripts.
Show inventory awareness; ensure optimal order quantities based on usage and shelf levels.
Miscellaneous
Flexible to work alternating and rotating schedules on short notice.
Never assigned to a single pharmacy; covers all RWJBH retail pharmacy locations.
Use reporting mechanisms for variances and adverse drug events.
Order and maintain operational supplies.
Keep OTC section clean and order items accordingly.
Record refrigerator and ambient room temperatures as required by NJ Board of Pharmacy.
