Base Pay Range $20.00/hr - $20.00/hr

Overview Retina Consultants of Texas (RCTX) is seeking a Dedicated Assistant to join our innovative team with the mission of Fighting Blindness For The World To See. Under the direction of the clinic managers and the designated physicians, the dedicated assistant will provide coherent continuity of patient care by following up with patients' medical records, lab results, and physician correspondence with co‑managing doctors, in addition to clinical duties. Candidate must be able to travel to various clinics, communicate effectively, and be highly organized to work in a fast‑paced environment. This position will travel to clinics in and around San Antonio. Mileage will be compensated. Candidates must be able to travel to various clinics to meet the needs of the patients and providers, and support the Clinic hours of Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:30am-6:30pm. Schedules are provided weekly and are based on the provider's clinic, patient and surgery schedules. Clinic staff are provided with the opportunity for weekend hours if available. Responsibilities

Greet and guide patients to examination rooms

Acquaint yourself with all new and established patients, providing plan/setting expectations for visit

Maintain a smooth and seamless flow of patients to examination rooms

Document all history and testing information accurately and consistently

Updating and filing patient's medical records including lab results and outside medical records

Summarize all exam details from physician into patients electronic chart, including but not limited to: proper charting of examination, additions to chief complaint, physician assessment and recommendations for treatment

Observe patient and physician during exam and assist as needed or when appropriate

Maintain awareness of the patients verbal and nonverbal communication when the physician is providing instructions, as you may need to repeat the information or provide educational materials for the patient to review at home

Ensure patient understands all verbal and written instruction from physician

Assist physician in patient care and minor surgical procedures in examination room

Add diagnosis in patients electronic chart and ensure codes match diagnosis for billing purposes

Guide patient to front desk after completion of the exam and ensure proper follow‑up appointments are scheduled

E‑prescribe new and renew prescription medications as directed by physician

Coordinating patient care with co‑managing specialists and laboratory services

Handling physicians' e‑mail correspondence relating to patient care

Sending secure e‑mails to referring doctors regarding mutual patients' care management

Checking and responding to e‑mails twice a day minimum

Coordinating time to meet with designated physician to address any outstanding issues

Perform other duties as assigned by Physician, Clinic Manager, Supervisor and/or Director of Operations

Skills & Competencies

Training and understanding of HIPAA requirements and the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality.

Knows required components of examination for appropriate CPT coding to ensure all elements are accurately completed.

Understands Medicare and other common insurance requirements for quality reporting in order to help practice comply with payer requirements.

Proficient in scribing for ophthalmology services including exams, diagnostics, and procedures

Experience with electronic medical records preferred

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong, professional interpersonal skills.

Organizational skills and attention to detail

Basic understanding of algebraic principles.

Basic to advanced computer skills required

Ability to spell accurately while charting

Management of multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to work well in a team dynamic as well as independently

Demonstrated respect for staff and patients.

Qualifications

College degree preferred

Minimum of 1 year experience as an Ophthalmic Scribe

Completion of medical terminology and/or ophthalmic terminology courses.

Scribe certification (preferably Certified Ophthalmic Assistant and/or Ophthalmic Scribe Certification) preferred, should obtain within 6 months.

Valid CPR certification

Physical Abilities

Must be able to move frequently from standing and sitting depending on exam room configuration during clinic sessions.

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly lit setting.

Must be able to hear softly spoken words.

Must be able to add support for patients getting in and out of exam chairs.

Lifting required up to 30 pounds.

Regularly required to communicate with patients, staff and medical providers.

Open availability to work, including early mornings and late evenings.
