MetLife
Role Value Proposition
Join MetLife’s Marketing Data Engineering team, building and operating the Marketing Data Platform (MDP) on Azure and Databricks. We curate audience and measurement datasets, automate campaign-ready outputs, and integrate enterprise, MarTech, and third-party data to enable repeatable campaign activation and performance measurement across channels.
The Opportunity As a Lead Data Engineer, you will own core platform architecture, data pipelines, and automation that power segmentation, activation, and measurement. You will help standardize how campaigns are executed and measured—reducing ad-hoc work, improving data quality, and accelerating insight-to-action for Marketing.
Success in this role requires strong Azure/Databricks engineering depth and the ability to translate marketing objectives into durable platform capabilities. The Lead Data Engineer is responsible for end-to-end delivery of the platform and pipelines that support both activation and measurement. You’ll collaborate closely with the Data and Analytics team, MarTech/Marketing Ops, BI developers, and platform governance partners in an environment where every contribution is respected, and every perspective is heard.
Key Responsibilities
Own Azure-based MDP architecture and operations (security, reliability, performance, cost).
Build reusable ETL/ELT pipelines in ADF + Databricks/Delta for curated audience and measurement data products.
Enable campaign activation by operationalizing segmentation logic and producing campaign-ready extracts for activation platforms.
Deliver measurement datasets for performance, engagement, and attribution; support efficient refresh and reporting patterns.
Implement governance: RBAC, encryption, auditing, lineage/metadata; ensure compliance with internal policies.
Drive DevOps/IaC for data workflows (CI/CD, source control, automated deployments, monitoring).
Partner with Marketing Analytics, MarTech/Ops, and BI to prioritize backlog and deliver outcomes in Agile.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills Required
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field experience.
5+ years in data engineering/architecture; 2+ years in Azure environments.
Expertise in Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure SQL, and/or Azure Synapse.
Strong SQL and/or Python; performance tuning for pipelines and queries.
Git and CI/CD (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions).
Knowledge of customer/audience data models and campaign lifecycles (activation → measurement → optimization).
Preferred
Azure certifications (Solutions Architect / Data Engineer Associate).
Terraform/YAML Infrastructure as Code for Azure deployments.
Marketing/MarTech integrations (Adobe, Salesforce, Marketo, CDPs) via APIs/REST.
Third-party data onboarding and governance for marketing use cases.
Streaming/real-time architectures (Event Hubs, Kafka, Stream Analytics).
At MetLife, we’re leading the global transformation of an industry we’ve long defined. United in purpose, diverse in perspective, we’re dedicated to making a difference in the lives of our customers.
