Position Overview Under limited supervision, evaluate and classify medical, non‑medical, and financial risks on complex life insurance risks up to $10,000,000 with approval authority up to $5,000,000. Ensure rate quotes are fair, equitable, and profitable to RGA Re, and completed within required time frames. Maintain strong client relationships by providing underwriting solutions and communicating decisions professionally.
Responsibilities
Appraise and underwrite complex life insurance risks with approval authority up to $5,000,000, ensuring underwriting quotes are sound, competitive, and profitable.
Process casework load efficiently, meeting or exceeding time service/productivity goals and offer/decline ratios, and ensuring compliance with internal guidelines.
Provide underwriting solutions to clients by partnering with them to identify unique, creative ways to solve their problems and improve their business results.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients by understanding their needs and effectively communicating, selling, and negotiating RGA Re’s underwriting decisions.
Stay up to date on new client products, industry developments, medical and financial underwriting changes, and maintain professional development through literature and seminars.
Identify imaging system issues and report inconsistencies or problems.
Collaborate with Medical Directors, other team members, internal departments, and RGA Re offices to obtain expert knowledge and assist in resolving issues, resulting in quality outcomes and client satisfaction.
Participate in special projects, committees, and meetings, and assist in client presentations as required.
Assist in department training, updating underwriting guidelines, gathering client profiles, audit reviews, and other departmental areas.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Perform backup support and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience (minimum 8 years).
4–6 years reinsurance life underwriting experience or 7–8 years direct life underwriting experience.
Strong Word skills, intermediate SQL/Query and Excel skills.
Ability to comprehend and interpret insurance and contract documents.
Advanced oral and written communication skills.
Ability to adapt quickly to new methods, work under tight deadlines, and handle stressful conditions.
Advanced investigative, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Advanced goal‑setting ability and ability to manage multiple tasks, clients, and projects simultaneously.
Ability to work well within a team environment and participate in departmental projects.
Ability to balance detail with departmental goals and objectives.
Advanced ability to translate business needs into viable solutions.
Advanced customer relationship and change management skills.
