Renewyx
Our client is a rapidly growing organization delivering large-scale renewable energy infrastructure projects across the United States. Due to continued expansion, they are seeking an experienced Utility-Scale Solar Design Review Engineer to support projects 50 MW and larger by reviewing engineering deliverables, coordinating with Engineers of Record (EORs), and driving value‑engineering initiatives.
This role is not focused on detailed drafting or day‑to‑day production design. Instead, it requires prior utility‑scale experience and strong engineering judgment to evaluate designs, identify cost‑saving opportunities, and collaborate effectively with EORs and EPC partners.
Key Responsibilities
Review utility‑scale solar PV (and related BESS) design packages for constructability, cost efficiency, and compliance with project requirements
Coordinate closely with Engineers of Record to evaluate design decisions, assumptions, and risk areas
Identify value‑engineering opportunities to reduce capital cost and schedule risk
Review site layouts, single‑line diagrams, and major equipment selections at a high level
Support preconstruction, estimating, and project teams with engineering insight during proposal and execution phases
Participate in design review meetings with internal teams, EORs, and external partners
Conduct periodic site visits to support QA/QC and confirm alignment between design intent and construction
Communicate clearly and effectively with engineering, operations, and executive stakeholders
Required Technical Qualifications
Experience reviewing utility‑scale solar PV projects 50 MW and above
Demonstrated experience working with or alongside Engineers of Record
Strong ability to review third‑party engineering drawings and design packages
Background supporting EPC, owner, or developer‑side engineering functions
Solid understanding of utility‑scale PV system design, equipment, and construction practices
Preferred Experience
Exposure to BESS projects in a utility‑scale environment
Background in EPC, owner’s engineering, or independent engineering
Experience with value engineering, constructability reviews, and cost optimization
Familiarity with multiple U.S. power markets and utility requirements
Soft Skills & Cultural Fit
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Collaborative and personable; able to build relationships across teams
Practical, solutions‑oriented mindset grounded in real project experience
Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, growth‑oriented environment
Work Location & Travel
Hybrid arrangement preferred; remote considered for the right candidate
Ability to support Pacific Time Zone work hours required
Travel expectation of approximately 40%, including recurring out‑of‑state travel
Seniority level Mid‑Senior level
Employment type Full‑time
