Base Pay Range $115,000.00/yr – $165,000.00/yr

Essential Responsibilities

Conduct field investigations and failure analysis of commercial, residential, and industrial mechanical systems and components.

Determine causes of mechanical failures, gas‑related fires and explosions, product liability, construction or design defects, HVAC systems, plumbing, piping systems, industrial machinery, boilers, hydraulics, pumps, compressors, cranes, and motor vehicles.

Inspect losses and loss scenes at residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.

Investigate and assess damages and evidence due to failures and determine the origin of failure for insurers and litigation support.

Analyze and document the failure analysis and causation of failures.

Examine and test evidence in a laboratory setting and research failure modes related to products, installations, and maintenance findings.

Collaborate with other experts to produce detailed reports outlining the origin and cause of losses and damages.

Serve as an expert witness in court and/or depositions.

Document and maintain billable hours on a time and expense basis for failure analysis and forensic engineering projects for clients.

Education and Licensing

Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.

Requires a Professional Engineering (PE) license, minimum required for the resident state; multi‑state licensing and/or an active NCEES Record is preferred.

Expert Witness Testimony experience is a plus.
