We are looking for an organized and detail‑oriented Bookkeeper to manage our financial records and ensure the smooth operation of our firm’s business office.
Position Overview The Bookkeeper will be responsible for the day‑to‑day financial management of the firm. This role requires a high degree of integrity, as you will be handling sensitive financial data and managing attorney trust accounts (IOLA) in strict accordance with legal ethics and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable/Payable: Manage all firm billing, process incoming payments, and ensure timely payment of vendor invoices and firm expenses.
Trust Accounting: Perform meticulous management and reconciliation of IOLA/Trust accounts to ensure compliance with New York State requirements.
Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the attorneys.
Bank Reconciliation: Perform monthly reconciliations of all operating and escrow accounts.
Tax Coordination: Organize financial records for year‑end tax preparation by the firm’s external CPA.
General Administration: Assist with light office management and legal‑assistant tasks as needed in our collaborative team environment.
Buildings and Grounds: Manage tasks associated with buildings and grounds and arrange for completion of such tasks with outside service providers.
Qualifications
Previous experience in a law firm setting is highly preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in bookkeeping software and Microsoft Excel and Word.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of double‑entry bookkeeping and financial reporting. Knowledge of IOLA/Escrow accounting rules is a plus.
The salary ranges from $40,000 to $60,000 with benefits and will be commensurate with experience. Opportunity to train with current bookkeeper who has been with the firm for 40+ years.
