Actuarial Assistant II - Associate Actuary

Protective is seeking an Actuarial Assistant II or Associate Actuary to join our Actuarial Life Projections team. This role is critical in performing projections and advanced analytics to support regulatory and business requirements, including business planning, embedded value analysis, cash flow testing, and capital standards. A successful candidate will analyze in‑force business, develop tools to improve efficiency, and provide modeling expertise for new functionality. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex projects, collaborate across departments, and contribute to strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Perform projections and analytics for business planning, embedded value (including value of new business), annual cash flow and risk‑based capital (RBC) testing, and international capital standards.
Analyze period‑over‑period results at company and product levels, explain changes, and document findings.
Validate projection models dynamically and support inquiries related to experience, reinsurance, and acquisitions.
Develop tools and implement new technology such as visual analytics software to enhance analysis.
Provide modeling expertise for new functionality, including dynamic assumptions, predictive models, and stochastic modeling.
Prepare reports, memos, and documentation to communicate results effectively.
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge Required
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across teams.
Familiarity with actuarial modeling systems; experience with PolySystems is a plus.
Knowledge of Statutory and U.S. GAAP valuation methodologies.
Proficiency or willingness to learn SQL and visual analytics tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
Qualifications
Near‑ASA or recent ASA designation preferred.
3–4 years of actuarial experience in asset/liability modeling, pricing, or financial reporting.
Experience with PolySystems is a plus but not required.
Strong curiosity and ability to drill into issues for deeper understanding.

Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $78,000 to $135,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on job location, skills, and experience. At the Associate Actuary (ASA) level, this position also offers additional incentive opportunities through an annual incentive based on individual and Company performance.
