As a member of the Consumer Advisory risk team within the Retail Bank Risk Office, you’ll be challenged to shape the risk mitigation strategy for one or more areas of Consumer Advisory. You’ll work with various stakeholders to identify unmitigated risks and assist with opportunities to strengthen the control environment to reduce risks for the business while building lasting partnerships. This role will focus on risks and controls impacting one or more of our retail bank processing functions and help enable a well‑managed risk environment.
Principal Risk Advisors at Capital One are highly motivated risk management professionals with an ability to think critically and problem solve. They have a high level of exposure across lines of business and have the opportunity to work with senior management to create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate potential risks to the Company. They are expected to have excellent organizational and communication skills.
Responsibilities
Participate in risk assessments to proactively identify potential risks to the business and work with key stakeholders to develop and drive solutions that remediate risks.
Provide advice and guidance on risks and controls (Risk Consulting).
Develop and leverage relationships with support and functional stakeholders to enable collaboration across the enterprise (Client Management).
Identify and track issues and events to mitigate risk within Consumer Advisory, coordinating with applicable business areas to define and implement timely remediation activities (Issues Management).
Support change control efforts at the process level to ensure impacts are appropriately assessed, documented and implemented (Process and Change Management).
Provide support during audits and regulatory exams and assist in delivering key risk mitigation and remediation activities (Audit and Exam Management).
Leverage strong written and verbal communication skills to present risk topics to business and functional stakeholders.
Implement and deliver on a subset of horizontal program deliverables.
Basic Qualifications
At least 2 years of experience supporting Risk Management.
At least 1 year of Project Management experience.
At least 1 year of G‑Suite experience (Gmail, Slides, Sheets, Docs).
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of Project Management experience leading cross‑functional projects or programs in Risk.
3+ years of Financial Services risk management experience.

Salary and Compensation McLean, VA: $120,800 - $137,900 for Principal Risk Specialist.
Richmond, VA: $109,900 - $125,400 for Principal Risk Specialist.
This role is also eligible to earn performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long‑term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non‑discretionary depending on the plan.
