Position Overview Summit Partners is seeking an experienced Estimator to support pre‑construction and business development efforts by preparing accurate, detailed, and competitive project estimates. This role is highly collaborative and works closely with ownership, project managers, superintendents, design partners, and the subcontractor community to establish reliable budgets, evaluate risk, and support informed decision‑making during pursuit and pre‑construction phases.
Duties & Responsibilities
Prepare detailed conceptual, schematic, and final construction cost estimates
Review drawings, specifications, and scope narratives for completeness and constructability
Perform quantity takeoffs and develop detailed cost breakdowns
Solicit, communicate with, and maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
Analyze, level, and evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals
Coordinate closely with project managers and superintendents during project handoff
Support design‑build and GMP pre‑construction efforts
Assist with value engineering and cost optimization strategies
Develop and maintain bid tabs, pricing databases, and historical cost data
Identify scope gaps, assumptions, exclusions, and project risks
Participate in pre‑construction meetings and client presentations as needed
Support change order pricing and budget updates during pre‑construction
Minimum Qualifications
3–7+ years of construction estimating experience
Experience with commercial and/or industrial construction projects
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with subcontractors
Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and sequencing
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
Proficiency in quantity takeoffs and cost analysis
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software
Ability to manage multiple pursuits and deadlines simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with design‑build and GMP delivery
Industrial, manufacturing, or food‑grade facility experience
Established relationships within the local and regional subcontractor community
Experience supporting negotiated and competitive bid projects
Salary & Benefits
Salary Range: $85,000 – $120,000 annually (depending on experience)
