Central Sterile/Supply Technician The Central Sterile/Supply Technician will accurately perform quality‑control checks on instruments and equipment, ensuring sterilization meets hospital standards. Tasks include making rounds to confirm equipment is properly charged, maintaining all sterile or clean supplies, issuing supplies to nursing units as requested, demonstrating flashing techniques, decontaminating, assembling, wrapping instruments and trays, building a variety of instrument sets, keeping logs of missing instruments, signing instrument set lists according to protocol, and using surgeon preference cards to set up trays. The Technician must prioritize instrumentation needs based on the surgery schedule.
Responsibilities
Perform quality‑control checks and ensure proper sterilization of instruments and equipment.
Make rounds to confirm equipment is charged and ready for use.
Maintain and issue sterile or clean supplies to nursing units.
Demonstrate and apply flashing techniques.
Decontaminate, assemble, wrap instruments and trays for sterilization.
Assemble instrument sets, log missing instruments, and sign instrument set lists.
Utilize surgeon preference cards when setting up trays.
Prioritize instrumentation needs based on the surgery schedule.
Qualifications
One (1) year experience in a surgical department in an acute care facility
required.
Sterile Processing certification or National Surgical Technician certification
required.
Current BLS obtained through AHA (American Heart Association)
required.
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Certified Endoscope Reprocessor certification
required within one year of employment.
