Apex Systems
Overview
Apex Systems is seeking a Software/Systems Engineer to support a DFAS payroll application. This role involves designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software and systems that enable critical payroll operations. The ideal candidate will have experience with CA-IDMS systems, IBM z/OS, and database management in a secure federal environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, document, test, and debug applications software and systems.
Collaborate with hardware engineers and systems analysts to plan and design solutions.
Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility within time and cost constraints.
Modify existing databases and database management systems.
Write and code logical and physical database descriptions; direct others in coding descriptions.
Coordinate software system installations and monitor equipment functioning to ensure specifications are met.
Optimize CA-IDMS buffer and index tuning for performance.
Maintain CA-IDMS system generation and security administration.
Support CA Endevor/DB and REXX programming tasks.
Work as part of a project team to determine scope, limitations, and deliverables.
Qualifications Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
2-4 years of relevant experience.
Technical Skills
Knowledge of CA-IDMS system software install and maintenance.
CA-IDMS database maintenance, buffer tuning, index tuning, and security administration.
Familiarity with CA Endevor/DB and REXX programming.
Experience with IBM z/OS environment.
Proficiency in SQL, VisualBasic, and full software development lifecycle.
Soft Skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
