What to Expect (Job Responsibilities)

Accurately code Outpatient Surgery and Observation records using ICD10CM and CPT4 coding systems

Ensure compliance with coding rules and regulations as mandated by regulatory agencies (CMS, OIG)

Collaborate with the team to meet departmental and accounts receivable goals

Abstract prescribed data elements from medical records

Maintain knowledge of encoder systems and outpatient payment systems

What is Required (Qualifications)

Minimum educational requirement: High School Diploma or GED

Required certifications: AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist or AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician

Must obtain CCS or RHIT certification within 2 years if not already certified upon hire

At least 2 years of coding experience

Knowledge of National and Local Coverage Determination policies

How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

Familiarity with outpatient prospective payment system (OPPS) and Ambulatory Surgical Center payment system (ASC)

Competency in Microsoft Word and Excel

Strong communication skills to effectively interact with coworkers, management, and physicians
