Senior Payroll Coordinator As a Senior Payroll Coordinator you will serve as a payroll compliance subject matter expert, supporting a complex, multi‑state workforce across acquired and legacy entities. This role exercises independent judgment in interpreting payroll laws, resolving complex payroll matters, configuring payroll systems (UKG Pro), and advising internal stakeholders.
Essential Functions & Requirements
Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies and maintaining safe practices.
Interprets and applies Federal, State, and Local payroll tax and wage‑and‑hour laws.
Resolves complex, non‑routine payroll scenarios including retroactive and off‑cycle payments.
Advises HR, Finance, and leadership on payroll compliance risks.
Monitors regulatory changes, assesses business impacts, and leads payroll audits and agency inquiries.
Maintains payroll system (UKG Pro) ownership by configuring earnings, deductions, tax setups, and payroll controls.
Leads testing and validation of payroll system updates.
Partners with HRIS, IT, and vendors regarding identified system issues.
Oversees payroll processing for accuracy and compliance, reviews payroll results and exception reports.
Approves payroll adjustments and off‑cycle payments.
Conducts audits on multi‑state payroll reconciliation and reporting.
Improves payroll processes to support growth and acquisitions; supports payroll integration for acquired entities.
Develops and maintains payroll standard operating procedures (SOPs) and internal controls.
Identifies compliance and financial risks and implements mitigation plans.
Trains HR partners and Payroll staff on payroll processes and serves as a functional lead for payroll initiatives.
Reviews payroll work performed by others for compliance.
Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent (required).
Certified Payroll Professional or Fundamental Payroll Certification (preferred).
Experience
5+ years of progressive payroll experience (required).
Experience with and advanced knowledge of payroll compliance practices (required).
Demonstrated experience exercising independent judgment on complex payroll matters (required).
Experience working within a growing or acquisitive organization (required).
Experience working with UKG Pro Payroll and Time (preferred).
Audit, acquisition, or payroll implementation experience (preferred).
Competencies
Advanced knowledge of payroll systems and processes.
Solid computer skills, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and use of pivot tables, charts, and advanced filtering.
Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
Regular and predictable attendance to perform the functions of this role.
