Position Summary The UGE Foreman manages multiple crews to complete daily tasks related to the construction and maintenance of underground power lines. This role requires extensive knowledge of underground electrical distribution systems, crew management, troubleshooting, scheduling, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Oversee each project’s work and assume full responsibility for its quality and timeliness.
Ensure compliance with proper safety standards, procedures, and work practices according to MasTec or the higher customer standard.
Facilitate daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections.
Disseminate safety briefings and ensure crew understanding.
Coordinate and supervise daily tasks for crew members related to digging and placing product.
Perform switching procedures to isolate, insulate, splice, and terminate underground power lines following safety protocols.
Handle connection, disconnection, installation, removal, movement, and transfer of electrical devices such as transformers, regulator switches, capacitor banks, and switching devices.
Properly phase, mark, and tag underground equipment.
Drive, haul, and/or operate equipment to/from job sites to assist crew completion.
Train new hires and trainees to learn the trade.
Call in utilities located at each project site.
Qualifications Minimum
High school diploma or equivalent.
3 years of experience operating heavy equipment and general construction.
2 years of supervisory experience.
Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
Preferred
6 or more years of experience, including extensive experience supervising and training skilled labor.
Physical Demands and Work Environment This role operates in a field environment and requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50 pounds), twisting, and working in inclement weather (heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, wind). Precise hand‑eye coordination, color identification, and adequate vision are essential. This is a physically active position with frequent lifting and awkward postures.
