Potomac State College located in Keyser, West Virginia is currently accepting applications for a Part‑Time Women’s Head Coach.
About the Opportunity The Head Coach of Women’s Soccer is responsible for initiating various aspects of the Women’s Soccer program, such as recruiting, scheduling opponents, training, coaching team members, setting up pre‑game and breaking down post‑game, maintaining cleanliness of the gym before and after games and practices. The Head Coach will represent WVU Potomac State College in a professional manner and abide by the rules and regulations established by West Virginia University, the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), and NJCAA Region 20. They will also support the Director of Athletics with the implementation of the athletic program and mentoring of student‑athletes.
What You’ll Do
Responsible for all aspects of coaching a collegiate soccer team
Actively recruit new student‑athletes to WVU Potomac State to maintain a full roster
Actively monitor and encourage academic progress, retention, and graduation of student‑athletes
Organize and conduct a year‑round practice/conditioning program that adheres to the rules set forth by NJCAA
Monitor and discipline conduct of student‑athletes
Report scores/results
Supervise and assign duties to assistant coaches
Order, inventory, distribute, and collect equipment at end of season
Organize fundraisers to supplement annual budget for the team
Conduct camps to promote the program, build community relations, and provide extra income to offset budget constraints
Participate in campus events
Participate in community service events
Engage with the local community as a representative of WVU Potomac State College
Other jobs as assigned by the Director of Athletics
Driving of campus vehicles required including potential transportation of student‑athletes to practices, competitions, or other related events.
Appointment Length:
10 months
Work Hours:
15 hours per week
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Candidates with a degree in sports management, physical education, athletic coaching, or recreation will be shown preference
A minimum of one (1) year of experience involving:
Coaching experience required
Collegiate playing or coaching experience preferred
Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to demonstrate skills on court for practice
Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing
Basic knowledge of the following computer programs: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
Ability to work independently
Ability to complete tasks that have set deadlines
Strong ability to attract and recruit student‑athletes
Ability to develop student‑athletes and retain them as students
Understanding of how to develop a competitive sports program
Ability to work well in a team environment
Requirements
Valid driver's license
First Aid/CPR
Coaching certifications preferred
