Essential Job Functions
Plan, assign, supervise, review, and inspect the work of employees engaged in maintenance, repair, testing, configuration, and installation of fixed, mobile, and portable radio communications equipment.
Monitor and participate in requisitions and orders for parts and supplies.
Coordinate with other units within the Department to plan and complete projects such as installing and updating mobile radio equipment.
Share technical knowledge and expertise with other Departmental personnel.
Confere and consult with Department members and vendor to provide instructions on work techniques, equipment builds, operations, repairs, maintenance, and technological developments.
Keep shop and work records and create productivity reports.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and safe work practices.
Plan and schedule equipment inspection and preventive maintenance.
Write employees’ performance evaluations.
Perform the work of an Electronics Communications Technician on an as‑needed basis.
Drive vehicles as part of job‑related testing, reviews, and inspections.
Requirements
Three years of journey‑level experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of radio communications transmitting and receiving equipment.
Valid General Radiotelephone Operator License issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Valid California Class C Driver License (out‑of‑state applicants must obtain a California Class C Driver License prior to appointment).
Successful applicants must obtain a copy of their driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before appointment; a record showing three or more violations within the last year results in non‑appointment.
Physical Class III – Moderate: ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, twist, reach, work on irregular surfaces, and lift objects up to 25 pounds; frequent lifting of 10–25 pounds.
Vision and color perception adequate for essential duties.
